Cultural and morphological characters of different Xap isolates were studied on nutrient agar media. Five isolates collected from different locations differed in respect of size of colony, shape of colony and colour of bacterial colony. Isolates Xap-1 and Xap-4 developed medium to large bacterial colonies. The isolates Xap-1 and Xap-3 developed small to medium sized bacterial colonies, whereas, Xap-5 produced small bacterial colonies.

Bacterial blight of Pomegranate caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae has become a major constraint in important pomegranate producing states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh of India. Bacterial blight is one of the most important disease of Pomegranate caused by bacterium Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae (Xap). The disease is characterized by small, irregular, translucent, water soaked spots with light to dark necrotic centre surrounded by prominent yellow margin on leaves.

Five antibiotics viz. Streptomycin sulphate, Streptocyclin, Chloramphenicol, Ampicillin and Rifamycin and One fungicide viz. Copper-Oxychloride were tested against Xanthomonas axonopodis pv Citri. in vitro. The antibiotic sensitivity against sixteen isolates was studied by paper disk method. Streptomycine sulphate (500ppm) was significantly superior over other treatments with maximum inhibition zone in all Sixteen isolates of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv citri.

Pomegranate (Punica grantum L.) is a high value commercial horticultural crop grown extensively throughout Maharashtra. Among the different diseases on pomegranate Alternaria leaf and fruit spot caused by Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler, is becoming a serious and emerging problem to growers in Maharashtra. Therefore, in present studies fungicides (six systemic, five non systemic and two combi fungicides) were tested in vitro against A. alternata.

Genetic variability study of five isolates of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri was carried out using molecular markers. The isolates were collected from five places in Maharashtra state, India. Morphological and Biochemical tests viz. gram’s reaction, starch hydrolysis, indole production, catalase test, KOH test, Gelatin liquefaction and Acid production test were carried out to identify and confirm the purity of the culture.

Green gram bacterial leaf spot pathogen X. axonopodis pv. vignaeradiatae was isolated from diseased samples collected from different locations of Udaipur district. The pathogenicity was proved on one month old green gram plants of cv. SML-668 and isolate Xav-02 (Bhatewar) was found more virulent with 4 days incubation period and require 12 days for disease development. Initially dark brown water soaked spots were found on cotyledons and then appeared on leaves and stem of seedlings. On leaves, irregular dark brown raised necrotic spots were developed with shot holes.

Bacterial leaf spot bacterium (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vignaeradiatae) of green gram caused considerable damage every year during Kharif season and sometimes become very severe, which results in heavy loss in grain yield. The maximum mean per cent disease index was observed in Vallabhnagar followed by Kotra, Mavli, Jhadol, Gogunda, Salumber Tehsil and least percent disease index was observed at Kherwara Tehsil of Udaipur districts during surveys in the years i.e. 2013 and 2014.The per cent disease index varied from 07.56 - 32.60 and 08.56 - 29.42 in the years 2013 and 2014, respectively.

The study reveals the possibility to use simultaneously botanicals and pesticide control products as efficient and environmental friendly for disease control, which could provide a decrease of the pesticide dose needed for plant protection.
