Ebook "Tomato yellow leaf curl virus disease: Management, molecular biology, breeding for resistance" will awaken the interest of breeders, phytopathologists, environmentalists, extension services, plant virologists, entomologists and molecular biologists. It deals both with the epidemiological aspects of the disease and with integrated pest management in the field. It discusses the efforts aimed at breeding tomato plants resistant to the virus (using classical breeding, marker-assisted breeding and genetic engineering).

Areca palm (Areca catechu L.) is an important commercial crop in southeast Asia, but its cultivation is threatened by yellowing leaf disease (YLD). Areca palm velarivirus 1 (APV1) was recently associated with YLD, but little is known regarding its population and genetic diversity. To assess the diversity of YLD, the APV1 genome was sequenced in YLD samples collected from different sites in Hainan.

Banana (Musa spp.) is one of the most important commercial fruit crops especially in the tropics. Of the many diseases occurring on banana, sigatoka leaf spot disease incited by Mycosphaerella musicola Leach, is considered as serious threat to world banana production. Given the importance of yellow Sigatoka in banana plantations and lack of information on its epidemiology, the present study was conducted to assess the incidence of Sigatoka leaf spot in banana plants cultivated through organics manures and inorganic fertilizer.

Screening of okra genotypes was carried out under four different environments for shoot and fruit borer, yellow vein mosaic virus disease and enation leaf curl virus disease. The genotypes responded differently to different environments against different insect-pests and diseases. None of the genotype was found free from shoot and fruit borer infection, YVMV and ELCV incidence. However the genotypes that were found with some degree of resistance might be used for future breeding programmes.

The major production constraint for okra is yellow vein mosaic disease, causing losses with regard to the quality and as well as the yield. This is a viral disease occurring on bhendi. Yellowing of the entire network of veins in the leaf blade is the characteristic symptom. In severe infections, the younger leaves turn yellow to become entirely chlorotic and the plant is highly stunted.

Green gram and Black gram genotypes/germplasms were evaluated to identify the sources of resistance to leaf spot, powdery Mildew and mung bean yellow mosaic virus (mymv) diseases. Screening was done under natural field conditions at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Warangal, Telangana State, India.

Powdery mildew and Rust are major diseases of pea of worldwide distribution. Powdery mildew and Rust is an airborne disease. Powdery mildew is a particularly damaging in late sowing or in late maturity varieties. It is caused by Erysisphe pisi. The disease can cause 20-50% yield losses, reducing total yield biomass, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, plant height and number of nodes. The disease also affects green pea quality. Pea rust is characterized by the appearance of two types of symptoms.

The aphids (Homoptera: Aphididae) are one of major pests of agriculturally important crops, including vegetables, across the world. They suck plant sap, cause leaf curling, yellowing and stunted growth of the host plants. They also act as vectors of many viral diseases in plants. In order to explore aphid pests and their naturally occurring bio-control agents (parasitoids and predators), an extensive field survey was conducted in different vegetable ecosystems of the Kashmir valley during the years from 2014-2019.

Citrus Yellow Mosaic Virus (CYMV) disease and citrus greening bacterium are two important diseases in citrus. Citrus yellow mosaic virus (CYMV) disease is caused by bacilliform DNA virus while citrus greening disease caused by a fastidious bacterium (Candidatus liberibacter asiaticus) (Cla). Both the pathogens are infected citrus plants may detected by PCR using leaf tissues midrib tissue incase of greening.

Yellow leaf disease (YLD) is becoming a serious concern in sugarcane worldwide. The crop production and quality are going down due to the infection of this disease in sugarcane. An experiment was conducted to find out the effect of YLD on yield and quality of two early (Co 0238, CoS 03251) and two mid late (CoS 97261, Co 05011) sugarcane cultivars at SRI, Shahjahanpur during the year 2015-16.

Rapeseed-mustard accounts for 19.97 per cent of the total oilseeds production in India and it is one of the major contributors to Yellow Revolution. Their yield losses due to Alternaria blight was reported in the range of 10 to 70 per cent variable. The seed quality, seed size, colour and reduction of oil up to 10 per cent and seed germination ability is also adversely affected due to this disease in addition to quantities yield losses.

Biotic and abiotic stresses are major constraints in the production of groundnut. Among biotic stresses apart from bacterial and viral diseases, many fungal diseases are of economic importance. The major fungal diseases are Early leaf spot (Cercospora arachidicola), Late leaf spot (Cercosporidium personatum), Rust (Puccinia arachidis), Botrytis blight (Botrytis cinera), Aflarot/Yellow mould (Aspergillus flavus), Damping off (Pythium spp.

Okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench], is an important crop which is widely cultivated in different parts of the world mostly for human consumption and also for industrial use as fibre. The okra production in India, is hindered by occurrence viral diseases, like Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus (YVMV) disease and Okra Enation Leaf Curl Virus (OELCV) disease, spread by an insect vector, namely whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Gen), which affect okra production in terms of yield and fruit quality as well.

Fusarium oxysporum infection leads to Fusarium-derived wilt, which is responsible for the greatest losses in flax (Linum usitatissimum) crop yield. Plants infected by Fusarium oxysporum show severe symptoms of dehydration due to the growth of the fungus in vascular tissues. As the disease develops, vascular browning and leaf yellowing can be observed.

Silver nano particles were synthesized using two potential isolates of Trichoderma, Psudomonas fluorescens and one isolate of pathogen Rhizoctonia solani cell free culture filtrates incubated at different days 0, 5, 10 and 15. The present investigation revealed that bionano preparations irrespective of the isolate source used, i.e., Trichoderma, P. fluorescens or R. solani were found better in decreasing the sheath blight incidence in vitro though variation existed in terms of quantum of disease reduction.

Wheat production in temperate area is significantly affected by rust diseases, among which stripe (or yellow) rust caused by Puccinia striiformis Westend f. sp. tritici and leaf (or brown) rust caused by Puccinia triticina Eriks. is major threat to production. Non-progenitor Aegilops species with substantial amount of variability for stripe rust resistance genes has been exploited to a limited extent.
