Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the staple cereal crops of the world and it is one of the main sources of carbohydrates for nearly one-half of the world's population. So, an increase in rice yield to satisfy human needs is a pressing requirement. Agronomic characters such as high plant, length of panicle, length of flag leaf, number of seed per panicle, the weight of thousand rice, length and width of rice and tolerance to salt are the deciding factor for yield in rice.

Twenty one genotypes including check Krishna were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications during kharif-2017 at research farm of TCA, Dholi for estimation of genetic variability among them. Genotypes varied significantly for all the morpho-physiological characters indicating the presence of considerable variability among the genotypes. Significant bidirectional shift was observed in the mean values as compared to better check, thus provided scope for selection.

The prime objective of any plant breeder is developing new cultivars with high yield. The present investigation aimed at estimating the general combining ability among parents and specific combining ability in hybrids for various yield and related traits in upland cotton. Forty hybrids were obtained by crossing 8 elite lines with 5 selected testers in a Line × Tester fashion.

The estimates of genotypic correlation coefficients in general were higher than their corresponding phenotypic correlation coefficients indicating strong inherent association among the traits. The seed yield per plant had significant and positive association with number of primary branches plant-1, number of secondary branches plant-1 , number of pods plant-1 , number of seeds plant-1 , biological yield plant-1 , seed yield (kg/ha) harvest index and 100-seed weight at both genotypic as well as phenotypic levels.
