I don't think so. Physically, they are weaker and they need to retire earlier. C. When women are retired, they want to enjoy life. D. The government is still discussing the retirement age. Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 25 to 31. We are all getting older, of course. But this term refers to the tendency of the workforce's share occupied by young workers to decline, while the share of older workers increases. The former phenomenon is due to gradually declining birth rates and the latter phenomenon reflects a trend for workers to retire later and for women workers to return to the workforce in growing numbers after their children have gone to school, or left home. So the average " age" of the workers, arithmetically, increases. This creates some dilemmas for policy-makers. For a long time, governments were encouraging early retirement, on the rationale that retiring early would create room for younger people entering the workforce. Now they worry about the implications for public finances, and how the workforce would be able to pay for aged care without raising taxes. A common response is to lift the retirement age. At a number of levels this makes sense. Fewer jobs are manual. But what about those workers who have spent their lives in manual jobs? Increasing life expectancy reflects falling deaths from disease and accidents, but it does not make postponing retirement any easier for workers whose bodies, for work-related purposes, are worn out by the time they hit their mid-60s. Some have been in low-paid jobs. This makes an argument for easier access to disability pensions, but the trend has been in the opposite direction, in order to reduce public spending. Those with low capacity are being asked to pay for demographic changes from which they have not benefited. Governments urge employees to work longer but have so far found no effective antidote to employer discrimination against older workers. Another issue is the fact that several developments in technology affect the workplace as well as causing difficulties for aged employees. These include computer chips; word processing, spreadsheets and personal computing; communication technology; the Internet; and barcodes and scanning(…) Adapted from www.jstor.org Question 25. A. barcode and scanning B. personal computing C. automation and robots D. the Internet Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 32 to 36. Many people assume that video games have a detrimental effect on young people. A lot of time in front of a screen is bad for the mind and the body, they believe. Newspaper headlines often express the same opinion - and combat games cause the most concern because of the violence. But is there any evidence for this view? According to a report in American Psychologists, the truth is not so simple. Playing video games is sometimes good for children's education, health, and social skills. Research shows that video games can improve certain mental skills. This is especially true for combat games. These games teach players to think about objects in three dimensions and this makes them better at studying science, technology, engineering, and maths. Other types of video games do not usually provide these benefits. However, other types of video games can have other positive effects. In 2013, scientists did some research into the effect the role-playing games (RPGs) on children. The research showed that when children spend a lot of time playing RPGs, they get better grades at school than children who do not play them. Other research showed that playing any kind of video game, including violent games, improves children’s creativity. But using a computer or smartphone for emails or other tasks does not provide this benefit. Question 32.
