In this work, the rGO/polyacrylic acid (rGO/PAA) composite film was synthesized using the 3D direct ink writing technique with GO/acrylic acid (GO/AA) ink and UV irradiation. Results show that after a UV irradiation time of 3.6 seconds, GO was reduced into rGO, and AA was polymerized into PAA.

This work reports the surface modification of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers by graft copolymerization to ensure the decoration of homogenous and dense Ag nanoparticles. Two facile and subsequent modification processes resulted in a PAN fiber composite with an intact fibrous structure, sufficiently conductive for antistatic application and antibacterial activity. In the first step, some chemically attractive monomers and monomer mixtures, such as acrylic acid (AA), AA-itaconic acid (AA-IA), AA-acrylamide (AA-AAm), were introduced to the fiber surface by grafting.

This study describes the synthesis of magnetic nanohydrogels by miniemulsion polymerization technique. Dextran was derivatized by the glycidyl methacrylate to anchor vinyl groups on polysaccharides backbone, allowing its use as a macromonomer for miniemulsion polymerization, as confirmed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (13C NMR).

New superabsorbent hydrogels were synthesized through free radical graft copolymerization of partially neutralized acrylic acid (AA) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS) onto carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) backbones. The structure and morphology of the synthesized superabsorbent hydrogels were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope. The effect of the molar ratio of AMPS to AA, the APS concentration, and the CMC content on swelling ratio was optimized.

Palladium-catalyzed Heck coupling reactions of styrene with bromoarene derivatives are carried out under aerobic conditions in water using water-soluble N,N,N′,N′-tetrakis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine (EdteH4) and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (Na2EDTA) as ligands. The effect of different bases, catalyst loading, and additives is also monitored.

This decrease in induction time was due to decrease in the surface area of nanoparticles present within the microgels with an increase in the feed contents of acrylic acid. The decrease in the value of apparent rate constant was due to an increase in the size of nanoparticles fabricated within the microgels with an increase in mol percentage of acrylic acid. The linear relation between apparent rate constant and feed contents of acrylic acid can be used for quantitative analysis of contents of acrylic acid present in polymer microgels.

Boron methacrylate (BAc) monomer was synthesized via an esterification reaction. Boric acid, neopentyl glycol, and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) were reacted to obtain boron-containing acrylic monomer. Characterization was achieved by FT-IR, 13 C NMR, 1 H NMR, and 11 B NMR and the results for the synthesized monomer were compared to those for HEMA. Homopolymer and copolymers with styrene (St) were synthesized via free radical polymerization. The properties of the synthesized styrene copolymers were investigated using several techniques.

Novel unsymmetrical organic sensitizers having donor, π-spacer, and anchoring groups were designed and synthesized for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) application. The dyes 3-{4-[7-(4-{bis[4-(hexyl)phenyl]amino} phenyl)-11,12-dibutoxy-1,4,5,8-tetrahydrodibenzo [a,c] phenazine-2-yl]phenyl}-2-cyano acrylic acid (KD-148) and 3-{5-[7-(4-{bis[4-(hexyloxy)phenyl]amino} phenyl)-11,12-dibutoxy-1,4,5,8-tetrahydrodibenzo [a,c] phenazine-2-yl]-2-thienyl}-2- cyano acrylic acid (KD-150) were anchored onto TiO2 and tested with ionic liquid electrolyte.

Photopolymerization kinetics of doxycycline hyclate (DOX)-imprinted hydrogels were monitored by real-time Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and differential photocalorimetry. 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate-based hydrogels were synthesized by using ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a cross-linker, acrylic acid (AA) as a functional monomer, and 2,2-dimethyl-2-hydroxy acetophenone as a photoinitiator. For imprinting DOX in hydrogels, the molar ratio of template to functional monomer (DOX:AA) was chosen as 1:8 and 1:16. The polymerization was achieved at two different initiator concentrations.
