Twenty one genotypes including check Krishna were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications during kharif-2017 at research farm of TCA, Dholi for estimation of genetic variability among them. Genotypes varied significantly for all the morpho-physiological characters indicating the presence of considerable variability among the genotypes. Significant bidirectional shift was observed in the mean values as compared to better check, thus provided scope for selection.

In order compute genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance expressed as per cent of mean, an investigation was carried out with 79 plants of F2 population of MFC-09-12 × PGCP-12 and 90 plants of F2population of MFC-08-14 × PL-3 in cowpea. Considerably high amount of variability was observed for the thirteen quantitative and qualitative characters under study.

Tyrosyl-DNA phosphodiesterase (TDP) cleaves the phosphodiester bond linking the active site tyrosine residue of topoisomerase I with the 3¢ terminus of DNA in topoisomerase I–DNA complexes which accumulate during treatment of cancer with camptothecin. In yeast, TDP mutation confers a 1000-fold hypersensitivity to camptothecin in the presence of an additional mutation of RAD9 gene [Pouliot, J.J., Yao, K.C., Robertson, C.A. & Nash, H.A. (1999) Science 286, 552–555].

The human MUC4 gene encodes a large membrane-associated mucin, characterized by a mucin tandem repeat domain and a growth factor-like transmembrane domain. In addition to the originally published sequence (sv0-MUC4), several MUC4 cDNA sequences (called sv1-MUC4 to sv21MUC4, MUC4/X, MUC4/Y) from various tissues and cell lines have been recently described. They differ from sv0MUC4 by deletions and/or insertions located in the 3¢ region or, for two of them, by deletion of the central repetitive domain.

The 5¢ flanking region of the bile salt export pump (Bsep) gene was systematically analysed to provide the basis for understanding the mechanisms which regulate Bsep transcription. In addition substrates and drugs were investigated for their ability to alter Bsep promoter activity. Bsep promoter function was restricted to hepatocyte derived HepG2 cells. The 5¢ deletional analysis revealed a biphasic shape of reporter gene activities, indicating a suppressive element between nucleotides )800 and )512. ...

In humans, thromboxane (TX) A2 signals through two TXA2receptor (TP) isoforms, TPaand TPb,thatdiverge within their carboxyl terminal cytoplasmic (C) tail regions and arise by differential splicing. The human TP gene con-tains three exons E1–E3; while E1 exclusively encodes 5¢ untranslatedregion (UTR) sequence,E2andE3 represent the main coding exons. An additional noncoding exon, E1b was identified within intron 1. Additionally, the TP gene contains twopromoters P1 andP2 located 5¢of E1 andE1b, respectively....

Genes homologous to hydrogenase accessory genes are scattered over the whole genome in the cyanobacteriumSynechocystissp. PCC 6803. Deletion and insertion mutants of hypA1 (slr1675), hypB1 (sll1432), hypC, hypD, hypE and hypF were constructed and showed no hydrogenase activity. Involvement of the respective genes in maturation of the enzyme was con-firmed by complementation. Deletion of the additional homologueshypA2 (sll1078) and hypB2(sll1079) had no effect on hydrogenase activity. Thus, hypA1andhypB1are specific for hydrogenase maturation....

Interleukin-1 (IL-1) induces multiple genes via activation of transcription factors that include NF-jB and activator protein-1 (AP-1).We found that IL-1-mediated c-Src acti-vation was required for AP-1 activation, but not for NF-jB activation and also revealed that c-Src-induced AP-1 acti-vation was enhanced synergistically by the coexpression of TNF receptor associated factor 6 (TRAF6).In addition, c-Src interacts with TRAF6 in response to IL-1 and this interaction is required for c-Src activity....

BP-23 recombinant clone coding for a previously described endoglucanase revealed the presence of an additional truncated ORF with homology to family 48 glycosyl hydrolases. The corres-ponding 3509-bp DNA fragment was isolated after gene walking and cloned inEscherichia coliXl1-Blue for expres-sion and purification. The encoded enzyme, a cellulase of 1091 amino acids with a deduced molecular mass of 118 kDa and a pI of 4.

Amino acid sequences of the mature forms ofFundulusHCE (FHCE) and LCE (FLCE) were 77.9% and 63.3% iden-tical to those of medaka HCE and LCE, respectively. In addition, phylo-genetic analysis clearly showed that FHCE and FLCE belonged to the clades of HCE and LCE, respectively.

During adipocyte differentiation, there is an underlying complex series of gene expressions. We have previously isolated many genes whose expres-sion levels are quickly elevated by the addition of inducers to mouse 3T3-L1 preadipocyte cells. Here we report the isolation and characterization of SLC39A14, a member of the LZT proteins, one of the subfamilies of ZIP transporters.

Addition of the second mannose is the only obvious step in glycosylphos-phatidylinositol (GPI) precursor assembly for which a responsible gene has not been discovered. A bioinformatics-based strategy identified the essential Saccharomyces cerevisiaeYbr004c protein as a candidate for the second GPIa-mannosyltransferase (GPI-MT-II). S. cerevisiae cells depleted of Ybr004cp have weakened cell walls and abnormal morphology, are unable to incorporate [ 3 H]inositol into proteins, and accumulate a GPI intermedi-ate having a single mannose that is likely modified with ethanolamine phosphate. ...

The addition of glucose toSaccharomyces cerevisiaecells causes reprogramming of gene expression. Glucose is sensed bymembrane receptorsaswell as (so far elusive) intracellular sensing mechanisms. The availability of four yeast strains that display different hexose uptake capacities allowed us to study glucose-induced effects at different glycolytic rates. Rapid glucose responses were observed in all strains able to take up glucose, consistent with intracellular sensing.

The proliferation of smooth muscle cells (SMC) is a key event in the development of atherosclerosis. In addition to growth factors or cytokines, we have shown previously that n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) act in opposition to n-6 PUFAs by modulating various steps of the inflam-matory process. We have investigated the molecular mech-anisms by which the incorporation of the n-6 PUFA, arachidonic acid, increases the proliferation of rat SMC treated with interleukin-1b, while the n-3 PUFAs eicosa-pentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), elicit nomitogenic response. ...
