Plectranthus edulis (Vatke) Agnew (locally known as Ethiopian dinich or Ethiopian potato) is one of the most economically important edible tuber crops indigenous to Ethiopia. Evaluating the extent of genetic diversity within and among populations is one of the first and most important steps in breeding and conservation measures.

The rapidly growing world population puts considerable pressure on the scarce natural resources, and there is an urgent need to develop more efficient and sustainable agricultural production systems to feed the growing population. This should be based on an initial assessment of the physical and biological potential of natural resources, which can vary greatly. The agroecological zonation (AEZ) approach presents a useful preliminary evaluation of this potential, and ensures that representation is maintained at an appropriate biogeographic scale for regional sustainable development planning.

Low temperatures decrease the capacity for biomass production and lead to growth retardation up to irreversible cellular damage in modern maize cultivars. European flint landraces are an untapped genetic resource for genes and alleles conferring cold tolerance which they acquired during their adaptation to the agroecological conditions in Europe.

China has diverse wheat varieties that adapt to very different environments divided into ten agroecological zones. A better understanding of genomic differences and patterns of selection among agro-ecological zones could provide useful information in selection of specific adaptive traits in breeding.

The purpose of this work is to assess microbial contamination level of millet and sorghum in Benin and to identify the molds responsible for this contamination. Sampling (240 millet and 240 sorghum grain) was done in Beninese agroecological zones (I to V) where both cereals are produced. Fungi were isolated using Direct Plating methodand characterised according to macroscopic and microscopic criteria.

Soil potential to stock organic carbon was appraised in hot sub-humid dry agro ecological region (AER 9) of Indo-Gangetic plains with alluvium derived soils i.e. old alluvium with growing period of 150-180 days. The study region is located in South Bihar and it was surveyed for prevailing land uses. There were six land uses viz., rice-wheat-fallow system systems, maize-potato-fallow system, red gram, sugarcane, mango orchard and agroforestry found prominent in the region. Five representative sites in each land use were selected for sampling in Jehanabad and Gaya district in south Bihar.
