  • In the present work, a simple automated microplate method based on cupric ion reduction is described for determining total reducing sugars in food extracts and synthetic serum. The reaction of Cu(II)-Nc (cupric-neocuproine) with reducing sugars was performed in alkaline medium in microplates, and the absorbance of the formed highly colored Cu(I)-Nc chelate in a plate reader at 450 nm was recorded. The proposed method was applied to reducing sugars (glucose, fructose, galactose, maltose, and lactose) and their linear calibration curves were constructed.

  • In this paper, a fast, cheap, simple, sensitive and selective spectrophotometric method based on high spin peroxo-Fe(III)-EDTA complex in the alkaline medium was developed for the determination of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in real water samples. The purple-coloured complex with a maximum absorbance at a wavelength of 525 nm was formed. Various parameters such as type of stabilizer reagent and its concentration, reaction time, Fe(III), EDTA and NH3 concentration were optimized. The method was confirmed with the Beer’s law with a molar absorption coefficient of 267.36 L mol−1cm −1 in the 8.

  • Wool has disulphide bonds containing-hydrophobic external keratin layers, which act as a barrier for the modification through coating with hydrophilic materials. For that reason, in this work, to ensure a dense and homogenous conductive polymer coating onto the wool, the fabrics were subjected to the reduction process in the aqueous alkaline medium containing agents that can attack these disulphide bonds. Then, one of the polyaniline derivatives, poly(mtoluidine) (PMT), was coated onto wool by in situ polymerization of m-toluidine sulphate using ammonium persulfate (APS) as an oxidant.

  • The kinetic pathway of oxidation of crotyl alcohol by sodium salt of N -chloro-4-methylbenzene sulphonamide (chloramine-T) in acidic and alkaline medium has been studied. The speciation of chloramine-T has been made to suggest a proper and reasonable reaction mechanism. The thermodynamic quantities such as activation energy and activation entropy are evaluated in acidic as well as in catalysed alkaline medium. An anticipated reaction mechanism has been suggested.

  • In this study, with the aim of determining and assessing the influence of several culture conditions on the ligninolytic enzyme (LiP, MnP, and Lac) activity of bacteria, five lignin-degrading bacteria strains were isolated from two different soil samples and cultured on minimum salt medium agar containing alkaline lignin (MSML agar). Among the five isolated strains, DL1 and X3 expressed strong and stable ligninase enzyme activity at various temperature levels (30C, 37C, 50C, and 60C) and were selected for further study.
