Antifungal effect of chitosans
-
Difficulties in the treatment of Candida spp. invasive infections are usually related to the formation of biofilms. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of molecular weight (MW) of chitosan (using high (HMW), medium (MMW) and low (LMW) molecular weight chitosan) on Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis and Candida parapsilosis sensu stricto.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate Cu-chitosan NCPs for its antifungal activities against Fusarium verticillioids causing post flowering stalk rot (PFSR) disease of maize. Cu-chitosan NCPs were prepared based on the ionic gelation of chitosan with tripolyphosphate anions and Copper ions having particle size (295.4 nm), polydispersity index (0.28), zeta potential (+ 19.6 mV).Various concentrations of Cu-chitosan NCP was applied in pot and field experiments.

The present investigation was to determine the antifungal ativity of different chitosans and chito-oligosaccharides against Alternaria solani. Out of four chitosans tested, chitosan DA10 and 134 was recorded as 53.44 and 51.47% at 1000ppm, respectively where as at 1500 ppm conc, the inhibition percent was 67.54 and 59.01%, respectively. Among the treatments, chitosans exhibited maximum growth inhibition of pathogen at 1500ppmconcentration.

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of lemongrass oil (Cymbopogon citratus), citronella oil (Cymbopogon winterianus) and cajeput oil (Melaleuca leucadendron) against Aspergillus niger by the agar diffusion method. The selected oil was combined with the edible film (chitosan 1 % w/v or alginate 1 % w/v) and applied to preserve Cat Chu mango (infected by A. niger at 105 spores/ml) in 14 days at 30 oC.

Maharashtra ranks first in production of onion. Purple blotch [Alternaria porri (Ellis) Cif] is one of the severe onion diseases in Maharashtra causing higher yield losses. Chemical fungicides are effectively used to manage it, are responsible for environmental hazard and fungicidal resistance in the pathogens and sustainability of onion production. Oligochitosan is a deacetylated derivative of chitin obtained by gamma irradiation of chitosan. Present study was conducted to assess the effect of oligochitosan on management of purple blotch of onion.
