The growth of waterborne pathogens and the discharge of partially treated or non-treated chemical waste has become a severe environmental and health risk. Conventional wastewater treatment methods have become less effective, and most current techniques require multiple stages for the disinfection of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) pathogens and the combined removal of toxic, non-biodegradable, or emerging priority pollutants from wastewater.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant threat to human health globally. Diseases caused by AMR are getting more challenging to cure due to the increasing rate of resistance of microbial pathogens. Drugs formulated with antimicrobial peptide (AMP) can be applied to treat these diseases. AMPs are found naturally within organisms, especially amphibians, and is related to the high adaptability of defence mechanisms against various pathogens and predators in the environment.

The crude extracts of L. shawii and P. emblica seeds proved to be the most active antimicrobials, against the entire S. aureus strains, using both quality and quantity assays for their bactericidal activity. Both L. shawii and P. emblica seeds contained remarkable amounts from active phytochemicals, alkaloids, phenolic compounds, tannins and flavonoids.

A simple synthetic method is reported for the preparation of some new phosphorus macrocycles in which the pyrazole rings are appended to a phosphorus atom. The methodology is based on the cyclocondensation reaction of bis(4-formylpyrazolyl) phosphine oxides (1a, 1b) with nitrogen nucleophiles that contain active terminal amino groups. The antimicrobial activities of the synthesized compounds were assayed.

Marine compound dendrodoine was first obtained from tunicate species (Dendrodo grossularia). It has a five-membered ring, namely, it is a heterocycle thiadiazole, which is found rarely in natural sources. Following its biological activities, novel analogs have been investigated recently. Synthesis of the analogs for this study is realized with uncommon thiazole closure, including methylene-carbonyl condensation. Structures are elucidated by NMR (1H, 13C) and HRMS spectrums.

In the present work, essential oil and fatty acids and extracts obtained from aerial parts of Phlomis linearis Boiss. & Bal. were investigated for chemical composition and biological activities. The phytochemical analyses were conducted with gas chromatographymass spectrometry/flame ionisation detector (GC-MS/FID) and liquid chromatography-mass spectromtetry (LC-MS/MS) techniques. The extracts and essential oil were studied for α-amylase and acetylcholinesterase activities with two different spectrophotometric methods.

The reaction of 3,4-dichlorophenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2(3H)-thione with piperidine derivatives via Mannich reaction was used to generate eleven novel compounds in moderate to good yields. Synthesized molecules were characterized according to their structure with 1 H NMR, 13C NMR and FT-IR spectral foundations, which were compatible with literature informations. Antimicrobial activity and cytotoxicity studies were done by disc diffusion and NCI-60 sulphordamine B assay methods.

The metabolite 2-(1,1-diallyl-but-3-enyl)-5-nonyl-phenol isolated from Streptomyces sp. TC1 exhibited antimicrobial activity against bacterial leaf blight pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo). The in vitro antimicrobial activity was found to be between 1.8-2.5 cm in agar well diffusion assay against the tested Xoo isolates and 200 µg/ml in terms of minimum inhibitory concentration. The isolated compound showed well binding with the virulence proteins of Xoo by producing a better docking score in molecular docking studies.

In the conventional broth microdilution assay, the optical density (OD) of drug dilutions, inoculated with microorganisms after sufficient incubation is taken into consideration, which correlates with the most metabolically active cells in the mid log phase of growth. The particles present in the liposomes and other particulate solutions interfere with the OD measurement and produce an erratic result. Resazurin method is more reliable and realistic as it depends on metabolic activity of cells rather than OD of particulate matter present in the samples.
