Aromatic compounds

In this paper, we reported the isolation and structure resolution of five flavonoids including three flavan-3-ol compounds, (+)-catechin (1), (-)- catechin (2), and catechin 3- O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (3), one flavone, chrysoeriol (4) and one flavononol, engeletin (5) from leaves of C. brachiata Merr.

CYP73 enzymes are highly conserved cytochromes P450 in plant species that catalyse the regiospecific 4-hydroxylation ofcinnamicacid to formprecursorsofligninandmanyother phenolic compounds. A CYP73A1 homology model based on P450 experimentally solved structures was used to iden-tify active site residues likely togovern substrate binding and regio-specific catalysis. The functional significance of these residues was assessed using site-directedmutagenesis.

BASICS OF CRUDE OIL Crude oils are complex mixtures containing many different hydrocarbon compounds. An average crude oil contains about 84% carbon, 14% hydrogen, 1 ÷ 3% sulfur and less than 1% each of nitrogen, oxygen, metals and salts. Simple crude oil assays are used to classify crude oils as paraffinic, naphthenic, aromatic or mixed, based on the predominant proportion of similar hydrocarbon molecules. The comprehensive crude assays determine the value of the crude: its yield and quality of useful products.
