  • This study suggests an optimal coverage model aimed at the optimal deployment of Wireless sensor networks (WSN) based on improving the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm. The distance between the sensor nodes is regulated reasonably by implementing quasi-gravitation and quasi-coulomb power. Also, with a low regional repetition rate, the ABC algorithm can achieve fast optimization. Besides, to minimize node energy consumption, the sensing radius of WSN nodes is dynamically modified.

  • Density functional theory with the BPW91 functional and def2-TZVP basis sets was used to investigate the geometric structures of VB5 −/0 clusters. By using the bee colony algorithm, 300 initial structures are created for the studied cluster. The geometry optimizations at the BPW91/def2-SVP level result in 18 low-lying isomers in quartet states for the anionic cluster. The results at the BPW91/def2-TZVP level show relative energies and vibrational frequencies for diff erent spin states of 7 isomers of the anionic clusters and 6 isomers of the neutral cluster.

  • This study aims at adapting artificial bee colony as an alternative and efficient optimization strategy for solving RCPSP and investigating its performance on the RCPSP. To evaluate the artificial bee colony, its performance is investigated against other meta-heuristics for solving case studies in the PSPLIB library. Simulation results show that the artificial bee colony presents an efficient way for solving resource constrained project scheduling problem.

  • One of the most recent optimization techniques applied to the optimal design of photovoltaic system to supply an isolated load demand is the Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm (ABC). The proposed methodology is applied to optimize the cost of the PV system including photovoltaic, a battery bank, a battery charger controller, and inverter. Two objective functions are proposed: the first one is the PV module output power which is to be maximized and the second one is the life cycle cost (LCC) which is to be minimized.

  • Circularly symmetric two-dimensional (2D) finite impulse response (FIR) filters find extensive use in image and medical applications, especially for isotropic filtering. Moreover, the design and implementation of 2D digital filters with variable fractional delay and variable magnitude responses without redesigning the filter has become a crucial topic of interest due to its significance in low-cost applications. Recently the design using fixed word length coefficients has gained importance due to the replacement of multipliers by shifters and adders, which reduces the hardware complexity.

  • This paper presents an efficient design of non-uniform cosine modulated filter banks (CMFB) using canonic signed digit (CSD) coefficients. CMFB has got an easy and efficient design approach. Non-uniform decomposition can be easily obtained by merging the appropriate filters of a uniform filter bank. Only the prototype filter needs to be designed and optimized. In this paper, the prototype filter is designed using window method, weighted Chebyshev approximation and weighted constrained least square approximation. The coefficients are quantized into CSD, using a look-up-table.

  • In numerous signal processing applications, non-stationary signals should be segmented to piece-wise stationary epochs before being further analyzed. In this article, an enhanced segmentation method based on fractal dimension (FD) and evolutionary algorithms (EAs) for non-stationary signals, such as electroencephalogram (EEG), magnetoencephalogram (MEG) and electromyogram (EMG), is proposed. In the proposed approach, discrete wavelet transform (DWT) decomposes the signal into orthonormal time series with different frequency bands.
