Long term calcium deficiency during adolescence leads to poor bone mineral accrual in and early onset of osteoporosis. Information on calcium intake was obtained by 24hour recall method for three days. BMD of the whole body was measured by using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).

As a potential source of calcium and or minerals, the nutritional, physical, and sensory characteristics of biscuits enriched with baobab pulp were studied. The main objective of this study is to determine the ratio of incorporation of baobab fruit pulp flour with wheat flour for the production of a functional biscuit.

Denosumab is known to cause abnormalities in calcium homeostasis. Most of such cases have been described in patients with underlying chronic kidney disease or severe vitamin D deficiency. Previous bariatric surgery could also contribute to hypocalcemia and deterioration in bone health.

Changes in calcium metabolism and calcium urinary excretion during chemotherapy have not been thoroughly assessed in patients with early breast cancer (EBC), a population who frequently present vitamin D insufficiency. As hypercalciuria is a classical contra-indication to vitamin D (VD) supplementation, this study evaluated changes in VD and calcium metabolism parameters in patients with EBC undergoing adjuvant chemotherapy (CT).

Peanut embryo development is a complex process involving a series of gene regulatory pathways and is easily affected by various elements in the soil. Calcium deficiency in the soil induces early embryo abortion in peanut, which provides an opportunity to determine the mechanism underlying this important event. MicroRNA (miRNA)-guided target gene regulation is vital to a wide variety of biological processes.

Vitamin D is essential for calcium metabolism, Vitamin D deficiency can precipitate osteoporosis, cause muscle weakness and increase the risk of fracture. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of vitamin D inadequacy among non-supplemented postmenopausal women with osteoporosis and fragility fractures of the hip or vertebrae in Taiwan.

This leads to a strong dependency of Ca2+ supply via the xylem. Resulting physiological disorder are tip burn in lettuce or blossom end rot in tomato. Plants deficient in calcium have been shown to be more susceptible to pathogens and exogenous calcium supply in turn has been shown to improve the plant’s resistance. Conserved microbial patterns for example PAMP initiating a signaling cascade leading to induction of downstream responses of defense gene expression. Future research will shed more light on the different functions of this important nutrient and how they are interconnected.

The nutrient uptake processes of K, Mg, and Ca are strongly antagonistic resulting in a deficiency of the depressed nutrient [14]. A deficiency of one element could imply a relative or absolute excess of the others resulting in an imbalance for the plants [3]. A sufficient Ca concentration in soil or nutrient solution is important; however, major cations frequently interfere with Ca uptake [1].

In order to know the dynamics of calcium absorption in sunflower seedlings, an experiment was established under laboratory conditions, at the Universidad Tecnologica de Tehuacan, to evaluate five levels of Ca(CO3)2 in the solution. The variables were: absorbed calcium, pH, electrical conductivity, root length and volume, which were evaluated under a completely randomized design and four replicates (5x4) = 20 experimental units.

The parturient paresis is a production disease in high yielding lactating cattle during its first 24-72 hrs of parturition or during last few days of pregnancy in sheep/goat, characterized by acute deficiency of ionized calcium in the blood resulting in progressive neuromuscular dysfunction with flaccid paralysis and death in 2-3 days. A 2-year old pregnant doe was presented with a history and signs of sternal recumbency, curvature and twisting of neck, depression and anorexia to the Veterinary Clinical Complex (VCC), College of Veterinary Science, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad.

Soil quality is one of the important factors controlling yields of the crops. Soil characterization in relation to evaluation of fertility status of the soils of an area or region is an important aspect in the context of sustainable agricultural production. Soil physicochemical parameters are more important that control its quality. Variation in nutrient supply is a natural phenomenon and some of them may be sufficient whereas others deficient.

Grain calcium, iron and zinc are important micronutrients for human health for which deficiency occurs widespread in the world. Knowledge on genotype × environment interaction of these nutrients in the grains is expected to contribute to better understand the magnitude of this interaction and the potential identification of stable genotypes for these traits. The present investigation was carried out during kharif 2013 and 2014 in the experimental farm of Zonal Agricultural Research Station (ZARS), Bengaluru and ZARS V. C Farm Mandya to identify stable genotypes southern dry zone.

Nutritional deficiencies, imbalances or erratic management of feeding programs for dairy cows can create various types of health problems generally referred as metabolic diseases. High producing lactating cows are the most susceptible to metabolic diseases during the periparturient period. During this period the animal is tremendously challenged to maintain calcium homeostasis because of physiological and pathological factors. Milk fever is an important metabolic disorder of dairy cattle around the time of calving.

Three hundred soil samples from ten blocks of Jajpur district, Odisha state were studied for distribution of DTPA extractable. Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn and Boron their relationship with some soil properties. Soil pH, calcium carbonate, organic carbon and particle-size fractions had strong influence on the distribution of these micronutrients. The content of micronutrient increased with the increase in organic carbon and decreased with increase in pH. As per critical limit prescribed for Zn 26 per cent and Boran 73.3 percent of the soil could be rated as deficient in available zinc and boron.

The present investigation was aimed to increase consumption of green leafy vegetables in the daily diet thus combating the micronutrient deficiencies, especially iron and calcium. A series of laboratory experiments were carried out to study nutritional constituents of some selected green leafy vegetables and after comparing the iron and calcium content of the dehydrated green leafy vegetables, Amaranthus spinosus, Talinum triangulare and Chenopodium album were found to be higher in both iron and calcium content.

The diverse agro climatic zones of the state offer the advantage of growing different fruits. However, Red Delicious gave impetus to commercial apple production in the valley. Apple tree like other plants needs different nutrients in varying quantities to achieve proper growth and fruiting. Besides major elements, macro and micro nutrients are also required in small quantities that assume critical importance when deficient as these are taken up by the plant and need to be replenished. In many cases the quality of harvest produce is determined by the content of the mineral nutrients.
