In this study, the objective was to employ experimental design in order to optimize the efficiency of diesel oil removal from water using activated carbon sourced from rambutan peel. A central composite design was utilized to investigate the impact of contact time, adsorbent dosage, initial oil concentration, and pH on both the removal efficiency and oil adsorption capacity across 30 different experimental designs.

Waste from Jackfruit has little economic value and often causes serious environmental problems. The conversion of jackfruit waste will help reduce waste treatment costs, provide a potential source of raw materials for the activated carbon (AC) and increase economic value. In this study, the ACs from the Jackfruit shell and pulp were synthesized by microwave assistance for removing organic dyes.

The research article "Polyester production by halophilic and halotolerant bacterial strains obtained from mangrove soil samples located in Northern Vietnam" reports halophilic and halotolerant bacteria isolated from mangrove forests located in Northern Vietnam. Several of these bacteria were able to synthesize polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). PHAs are polyesters stored by microorganisms under the presence of considerable amounts of a carbon source and deficiency of other essential nutrient such as nitrogen or phosphorous.

Although the western Anatolian region is a foci for hydrothermal systems, this region has several high heat-generating granitic intrusive bodies that qualify to be candidates for enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). Considering the future energy requirement, carbon dioxide emissions reduction strategies, food, and water security issues, these granites appear to be the future clean energy source for the country. One such granite intrusive is located in the Kestanbol area in the western Anatolian region.

Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) is stored as an important carbon and energy source in bacterial cells. For biomedical applications, gram-positive bacteria can be better sources of PHAs, since they lack outer membrane lipopolysaccharide. Although gram-positive Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) has been indicated as a high potential PHA producer, phaC gene that encodes the key enzyme PHA synthase in the metabolic pathway is not determined in its genome.

In this study, 341 Bacillus sp. strains were isolated from agricultural soils of Turkey. The potent extracellular lipase producer was selected. It was identified by 16S rRNA, named as Bacillus cereus ATA179. Optimal nutritional and physical parameters for lipase production were determined. Sucrose as the carbon source, (NH4 )2 HPO4 as the nitrogen source, CaCl2 as the metal ion were obtained. The best results of physical parameters were stated at 45°C, pH 7.0, shaking rate 50 rpm, inoculation amount 7% and inoculum age 24 h.

The effect of different nitrogen sources on cell growth and polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) accumulation by halophilic bacterium strain Yangia sp. ND199 was investigated. The combination of 0.5 g/L potassium nitrate (KNO3) and 0.5 g/L yeast extract was shown to be good nitrogen source for cell growth and PHBV production by Yangia sp. ND199.

This study presents a new halophilic bacterial strain named Yangia sp. ND 218 which was isolated from the Giao Thuy mangrove, Nam Dinh Province, Vietnam which grew and accumulated PHA in a high salt medium. The possibility of designing an open (unsterile) fermentation process using Yangia sp. ND 218 was investigated.

In fruit production, the effects of flowering and fruiting, which modify source-sink relationships, cannot be overlooked and is even more true in tropical fruit production, where the flowering and fruiting phases exceed six months at the individual tree scale. More specifically, little is known about the effects of source/sink balance, and the associated changes in carbon export rate from leaves and leaf carbohydrate concentration, like the ones resulting from the presence of developing fruits, on leaf nitrogen and photosynthetic capacity within the crown of field-growing trees.

In the current context of eco-pollution, the substitute of conventional plastics with bioplastics is a big confront. On account of that, a non-growth associated PHB production study was conducted using Zobellella species under submerged fermentation process. As a result, Zobellella species showed the ability to accumulate 2.2g/L of PHB at pH 8. 0, temperature 37oC, salt concentration 2% in modified growth medium containing vitamins. Then, primary structural characterization of extracted polymer was conducted by FTIR analysis. The high intense peak was obtained at 1720.

Soil organic carbon (SOC) pool is the largest among the terrestrial pools. The restoration of SOC pool in arable lands represents a potential sink for atmospheric CO2. The management and enhancement of SOC is important for sustainable agriculture. The cropping system and soil type influence crop biomass under different fertilization. Agriculture acts as both the sink and sources of the greenhouse gases.

The bioflocculation efficiency was depended on the pH, carbon sources, the initial algae concentrations, bacteria strains, and the inital bioflocculant-producing bacteria concentrations. The temperature lightly affected the bioflocculation, no noticeable behavioral or activity changes were observed in mice that were orally administrated with four bacterial strains, and no treatment-related illness or death occurred after 72 hours.

The study examined the potential of fermented and dark-fermented biosolids as external carbon sources for denitrification improvement. This was done by up-scaling the selected two (out of seven) sludge fermentation conditions from past studies, carrying out ammonia stripping pre-treatment to fix the C/N ratio, before finding their specific denitrification rate (SDNR) using SDNR experiment set-up.

The eukaryotic glyoxylate cycle has been previously hypothesized to occur in the peroxisomal compartment, which in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae additionally represents the sole site for fatty acid b-oxidation. The subcellular location of the key glyoxylate-cycle enzyme malate synthase 1 (Mls1p), an SKL-terminated protein, was examined in yeast cells grown on dierent carbon sources.

We have reportedpreviously thatmultiple copies ofMRG19 suppressGALgenes inawild-typebut not inagal80strainof Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In this report we show that dis-ruption ofMRG19leads to a decrease in GALinduction whenS. cerevisiaeis inducedwith 0.02% but not with 2.0% galactose. Disruption ofMRG19in agal3background (this strainshows long-termadaptationphenotype)furtherdelays theGALinduction, supporting the notion that its function is important only under low inducing signals.

This paper reports the isolation and characterization of the regulatory moiety of the multicomponent enzyme phenol hydroxylase fromAcinetobacter radioresistensS13 grown on phenol as the only carbon and energy source. The whole enzyme comprises an oxygenase moiety (PHO), a reductase moiety (PHR) and a regulatory moiety (PHI). PHR contains one FAD and one iron-sulfur cluster, whose function is electron transfer from NADH to the dinuclear iron centre of the oxygenase.

To assess the expression and physiological role of the mitochondrial NAD + -independent lactate dehydrogenase (iLDH) inEuglena gracilis, cells were grown with different carbon sources, and theD-andL-iLDHactivities and several key metabolic intermediates were examined. iLDH activity was significant throughout the growth period, increasing by three- to fourfold from latency to the stationary phase. Intracellular levels ofD-andL-lactate were high (5–40 mM) fromthe start of the culture and increased (20–80 mM)when the stationaryphasewas entered....

In eukaryotes, pre-rRNA processing depends on a large number of non-ribosomal trans-acting factors that form large and intriguingly organized complexes. A novel nucleolar protein, Nop53p, was isolated by using Nop17p as bait in the yeast two-hybrid system. Nop53p also interacts with a second nucleolar protein, Nip7p. A carbon source-conditional strain with the NOP53coding sequence under the control of theGAL1promoter did not grow in glucose-containing medium, showing the phenotype of an essential gene. ...
