In this study, experimental results on mesoporous zeolite preparation from a common solid waste, the rice husk ash by a top-down and bottom-up approach were reported. In top-down method, the consecutive treatments of zeolite by acid and alkaline in the presence of a cationic surfactant (CTAB) successfully generated mesopores in the zeolite.

Amoxicillin (AMX) is a highly antibiotic resistance so that many studies focus on the removal of AMX in water environment. The present study investigated adsorptive removal of beta-lactam antibiotic AMX using a cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylamonium bromide (CTAB) modified nanosilica (CMNS).

An important improvement in polypyrrole film protection efficiency of iron was obtained by doping the polypyrrole film during the synthesis with a surfactant as the dodecylsulfate. These counter-ions have a very weak mobility in the polypyrrole, which thus becomes cationic permselective. The chloride anions penetration in the films is hence strongly reduced.

Na+-Montmorillonite (Na+-MMT) minerals were organically modified by adding different amounts of surfactant octadecylamine corresponding to the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the pristine montmorillonites. The characteristic of the organo-MMT were obtained by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy. The amount of added surfactant has direct effect on the interlayer separation and the organophicility-hydrophicility balance of MMT. An optimal surfactant/CEC ratio about 1.0 leads to two distinct distance of 15.5 Å and 32.

Surfactant-like membranes containing the 21-residue peptide KLLLL-KLLLLKLLLLKLLLLK (KL4 ), have been clinically tested as a therapeu-tic agent for respiratory distress syndrome in premature infants. The aims of this study were to investigate the interactions between the KL4 peptide and lipid bilayers, and the role of both the lipid composition and KL4 structure on the surface adsorption activity of KL4 -containing membranes.

Introduction: Surfactants can be classified into cationic, anionic and nonionic ones. Benzalkonium chlorides are cationic surfectants and being widely used as a disinfectant and germicide using their strong protein-denaturing action. Especially in hospitals, 10 % solution of benzalkonium chloride mixture is being usually used; it is diluted to 0.05–0.1 % solution to be used for various types of disinfection. The drugs are contained in gargles and preservative solutions for contact lenses.
