This paper focuses on investigating the driving torques of industrial robot arm joints by using the topology optimization algorithm for its links. Structural optimization criteria focus on reducing the mass of links in particular and the total mass of the system in general. Preliminary results show that there is a change in driving torques in a direction favorable for the operation of the joints when total mass of robot decreases for any trajectory.

Onco-proteogenomics aims to understand how changes in a cancer’s genome influences its proteome. One challenge in integrating these molecular data is the identification of aberrant protein products from massspectrometry (MS) datasets, as traditional proteomic analyses only identify proteins from a reference sequence database.

Ebook "Solid state gas sensors – Industrial application" focuses on what the research community labels as solid state gas sensors, where a gas directly changes electrical properties of a solid, which serves as a primary signal for the transducer. Therefore electrochemical, mass/viscoelastic, optical and calorimetric effects are out of the scope of this topic and have not been included.

Preoperative sarcopenia is a predictor of poor survival in cancer patients. We hypothesized that sarcopenia could progress as occult metastasis arose, especially after highly invasive surgery for highly aggressive malignancy. This study aimed to evaluate the associations of postoperative changes in skeletal muscle mass volume with survival outcomes in patients who underwent surgery for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma.

Idiopathic sclerosing mesenteritis (ISM) is an extremely rare condition in which mesenteric adipose tissue undergoes necrotic and fibrotic changes. It is also known as “retractile mesenteritis”, “mesenteric panniculitis” or “fat necrosis of the mesentery”.

New globalizing forces make our world increasingly interconnected. Similar issues affect us all: discover the tension between the needs of the individual and society, the changing workplace, and the role of everything from government to mass culture in our lives. To explain each concept, The Sociology Book makes each topic crystal clear using quirky graphics, pithy quotes, and step-by-step summaries. It defines terms such as "liquid modernity" and "communitarianism", and explains the theories of seminal thinkers from Karl Marx and Auguste Comte to Sharon Zukin and Judith Butler.

Analysis of changes in particle trajectories due to collision is essential to understanding the physical information such as energy or mass exchange during collisions between particles. Most of the research has studied particles with initial energies in a relatively uniform or gradient static energy landscape.

The study area is located on the continental slope, offshore Norway. Submarine sliding covers more than half of the study area, and is part of the Storage slide. The slide developed a series of extensional faults at the upper extensional zone which is gradually changed to chaos seismic facies, interpreted as mass transport deposits.

The paper presents a theory of the “plane of weakness” modelling applied to a deviated borehole that penetrated through laminated shale containing numerous parallel weakness planes. The obtained results show that the strength envelope for anisotropic rock is characterised by a U-shaped reduction in strength for failure along the weakness plane, confining pressure from 20 MPa to 80 MPa whithout any change in the failure mechanism of the shale.

A series of CMK-3-like carbon replicas was synthesized by precipitation polycondensation of furfuryl alcohol in an aqueous slurry of SBA-15 at a polymer/SiO2 mass ratio of 0.50–2.00. Changes in textural and structural parameters of SBA-15 after polymer deposition were studied by N2 adsorption and X-ray diffraction.

Chronic disease is the leading cause of premature death globally, and many of these deaths are preventable by modifying some key behavioural and metabolic risk factors. This study examines changes in health behaviours among men and women at risk of diabetes or cardiovascular disease (CVD) who participated in a 6-month lifestyle intervention called the My health for life program.

The pressure distribution of the rock mass on the tunnel's top and the level of stress concentration on its two sides are asymmetrical for inclined seam conditions. The position of the maximum vertical tension is expected to change from the left hip to the side of the coal pillar as the coal pillar widens. This change essentially marks the system's transition from one stable state to another.

Substantial evidence supports an association between physical activity and cognitive function. However, the role of muscle mass and function in brain structural changes is not well known. This study investigated whether sarcopenia, defined as low muscle mass and strength, accelerates brain volume atrophy.

The Predicting Risk of Cancer at Screening (PROCAS) study provided women who were eligible for breast cancer screening in Greater Manchester (United Kingdom) with their 10-year risk of breast cancer, i.e., low (≤1.5%), average (1.5–4.99%), moderate (5.-7.99%) or high (≥8%). The aim of this study is to explore which factors were associated with women’s uptake of screening and prevention recommendations.
