Worldwide, over 350 million people are chronically infected with the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and are at increased risk of developing progressive liver diseases. The confinement of HBV replication to the liver, which also acts as the central hub for metabolic and nutritional regulation, emphasizes the interlinked nature of host metabolism and the disease.

Human immunodeficiency virus-1-associated neurocognitive disorder is a known complication in individuals treated with antiretroviral therapy. Cerebrospinal fluid escape, which is defined as discordant higher cerebrospinal fluid viremia than plasma, may occur in antiretroviral therapy-experienced individuals.

Hepatic masses are relatively common findings, and the diagnostic approach often begins by identifying patient and mass characteristics that are risk factors for malignancy. Chronic immunosuppression is a known risk factor for various malignancies, and azathioprine in particular has been reported in association with solid and hematologic malignancies, including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Hepatitis B infection remains a global health problem, with progression to acute-chronic hepatitis, severe liver failure, and death making hepatitis B one of the most serious infections worldwide. The disease is most widely transmitted from an infected mother to her baby, after exposure to infected blood or body fluids or unsafe sexual contact.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in Africa. In Africa, the major causes of HCC include chronic infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and/or hepatitis C virus (HCV). Knowledge of the changes in the incidence of viral hepatitis-associated HCC over time and the factors responsible for such changes is key in informing policies for the prevention of viral hepatitis-associated HCC in Africa.

Viral populations are complex, dynamic, and fast evolving. The evolution of groups of closely related viruses in a competitive environment is termed quasispecies. To fully understand the role that quasispecies play in viral evolution, characterizing the trajectories of viral genotypes in an evolving population is the key. In particular, longrange haplotype information for thousands of individual viruses is critical; yet generating this information is non-trivial.

After 6 months of treatment with antiretroviral drugs based on quantitative HBV-DNA. The rate of normalization of liver enzymes increased significantly. The rate of patients with quantitative HBV-DNA under the detectable level was highly significant. Patients with mutations in the RT region was highly significant (52.9%) while we did not identify any mutations in the Pre-S region.

Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection remains a global health threat with 175 million carriers worldwide. Approximately 3% of the worldwide population is infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Lymphoproliferative disorder (LPD) is a term that includes a wide spectrum of pathologies ranging from a minor expansion of a B-cell population (with no clinical significance) to an aggressive high-grade lymphoma. Such proliferations of B cells apparently can be triggered as a consequence of a chronic antigenic stimulation resulting from an HCV infection.

The risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) increases in chronic hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) carriers who often have concomitant increase in the levels of benzo[alpha]pyrene-7,8-diol-9,10-epoxide(±) (BPDE)-DNA adduct in liver tissues, suggesting a possible co-carcinogenesis of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and benzo [alpha]pyrene in HCC; however the exact mechanisms involved are unclear.
