GlutathioneS-transferases (EC 2.5.1.18) (GSTs), are a family of multifunctional enzymes present in all living organisms whose main function is the detoxification of electrophilic compounds. GSTs are considered the most prominent detoxifying class II enzymes in helminths. We describehere the characterizationof novel dehydroascorbate reductase and thiol transferase activities that reside in the human parasite Schistosoma mansoni GSTx.

We report the effects of stabilizing osmolytes (low molecular mass organic compounds that raise the midpoint of thermal denaturation) on the stabil-ity and function of RNase-A under physiological conditions (pH 6.0 and 25C). Measurements of Gibbs free energy change at 25C(DGD) and kinetic parameters, Michaelis constant (Km) and catalytic constant (kcat )of the enzyme mediated hydrolysis of cytidine monophosphate

Diterpenes are a structurally diverse class of molecules common in plants, although they are very rarely found in bacteria. We report the identifica-tion in Mycobacterium tuberculosis(Mtb) of three diterpenes proposed to promote phagolysosome maturation arrest. MS analysis reveals that these diterpenes are novel compounds not previously identified in other organ-isms.
