Ebook "The mesoscopic theory of polymer dynamics" presented in this book explains in a consistent manner all dynamic effects (diffusion, neutron scattering, viscoelasticity, optical birefringence) observed in very concentrated solutions and melts of linear polymers from a macromolecular point of view. This monograph reconciles different approaches to polymer dynamics and reflects the modern situation in understanding the relaxation behaviour of the polymer systems.

This study focuses on the stability of nano-emulsions produced by phase inversion temperature method using n-Decane and n-Dodecane as the dispersed phase and pure water/brine as the aqueous phase (continuous phase). A non-ionic surfactant (Brij 30) was used in the preparation of the nano-emulsions. Three different types salt namely \(NaCl\), \(KCl\) and \(MgC{l_2}\) were used at different concentrations.

Recent advances in metabolomics have enabled larger proportions of the human metabolome to be analyzed quantitatively. However, this usually requires the use of several chromatographic methods coupled to mass spectrometry to cover the wide range of polarity, acidity/basicity and concentration of metabolites.

Melatonin has a long history of studies which confirm its ability to inhibit cancer growth. Melatonin is present in high concentrations in the mitochondria of normal cells but is likely absent from the mitochondria of cancer cells, at least when isolated from tumors harvested during the day.

In the present study, to evaluate a microalga’s responses to a macronutrient’s limitation and the excess to a micronutrient, we acclimated the well-distributed freshwater microalga Ankistrodesmus densus to N- or P-limited medium before exposing it to sublethal copper (Cu) concentrations.

Ketamine and hyperoxia are widely used in obstetric and pediatric settings. Either ketamine or hyperoxia has been reported to cause neuroapoptosis in the developing brain, and ketamine-induced neuronal apoptosis may involve a compensatory upregulation of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor NR1 subunit. The use of nanoparticles (NPs) has increased in recent years and consequently they are being released into the environment. The final destination of most NPs is the aquatic environment due to washing up by rain waters. Fish (n = 120) were exposed to different concentrations (0, 1, 5, and 25 mg/L) of aluminum-oxide (Al2O3), copper-oxide (CuO), and titanium-dioxide (TiO2) NPs for 14 days and 14 days of depuration period (no NP in water). Following NP exposures, activities of Na,K-ATPase, Mg-ATPase, Ca-ATPase, and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in the brain and muscle were measured.

The procedure is simple: to a known amount of sulfite in the polarographic cell (HAc, pH 6 or 7) is added an unknown Hg(II) sample. The Hg(II) concentration is calculated simply from the decrease in the sulfite peak after reaction with Hg(II). The limit of detection was 1 × 10 −6 M (S/N = 3) in this medium, which could not be obtained with most other mercury determination methods. The proposed new method exhibits high selectivity, sensitivity, reproducibility, and accuracy.

The immobilization method and atomic concentrations of Si 2p, Au 4f, S 2p, C 1s, N 1s, and O 1s of the resulting SA–biotin modified Si surface were determined by XPS. The CD spectrum and confocal microscopy imaging confirmed that step-by-step modification and bioconjugation can be monitored successfully. Such detailed and well-defined step-by-step characterization provides good information about the surface properties of biosensor platforms. In addition, the LSPR sensing ability of the Au Np based platforms was studied by using a model SA–biotin system.

Very small concentrations of a dimeric C,N-palladacycle were used as an efficient homogeneous catalyst for Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions between various aryl halides and phenylacetylene. The catalytic reactions were performed without the need for copper in DMF/H2O. This catalytic system shows excellent yields for aryl iodides and bromides and even in the case of aryl chlorides.

Polyacrylamide–montmorillonite (PAAm-Mt) and polyacrylamide–clinoptilolite (PAAm-Z) composites were prepared by cross-linked polymerization of acrylamide in dispersions of Mt and Z. The composites were characterized by FT-IR, SEM, XRD, CEC, and PZC analysis. The adsorptive features of PAAm-Mt and PAAm-Z for methylene blue (MB) were investigated by their relevance to initial dye concentration, temperature, contact time, PZC, and pH.

A novel preconcentration method for Pb and Zn ions using a column packed with Schiff base modified silica gel is described. The method was based on the sorption of analytes on N,N’-bis(4-methoxysalicylidene)-1,3-propanediamine modified silica gel and elution with HNO3 prior to flame atomic absorption analysis. The parameters pH, flow rate, sample volume, eluent volume, and concentration were optimized using a central composite design.

Tetra–n-butylammonium bromide modified sugar beet pulp (TBAB–SBP) with good biosorption and regeneration potential was prepared for removal of dye from contaminated solutions. The decolorization performance of TBAB–SBP was investigated using Reactive Yellow 2 (RY2) as a model dye. The characterization of the modified biosorbent was investigated by IR, SEM, zeta potential, and BET surface area analysis to discuss the decolorization mechanism. The effects of initial pH, biosorbent amount, contact time, dye concentration, and flow rate on the treatment process were examined.

Thiazolylpyrazoline derivatives were recently reported as potent anticancer agents. In this study, novel 1,4-phenylene-bis-N-thiocarbamoylpyrazoles (3a–h) and 1,4-phenylene-bis-pyrazolylthiazoles (5a–h) were prepared and screened for their anticancer activities against C6 (rat brain tumor cells) and HeLa (human uterus carcinoma). Anticancer activity studies were performed as a dose-dependent assay starting with eight concentrations. 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) was used as a positive control.

The n-ZnO nanorods/p-Si heterostructures show good photocatalytic ability at high baking temperature. The concentration of Rhodamine B can be decreased up to 97% after 150 min treated by the n-ZnO nanorods/p-Si heterostructures grown at 80 oC. This result indicates that the n-ZnO nanorods/p-Si heterostructures are capable of being used in the decomposition of organic compounds.
