While the evolutionary divergence of cis-regulatory sequences impacts translation initiation sites (TISs), the implication of tandem repeats (TRs) in TIS selection remains largely elusive. Here, we employed the TIS homology concept to study a possible link between TRs of all core lengths and repeats with TISs.

Redundancy is a common feature of genomes, presumably to ensure robust growth under different and changing conditions. Genome compaction, removing sequences nonessential for given conditions, provides a novel way to understand the core principles of life.

Our focus in this study is on the design and synthesis of a light-responsive peptide-based nanocarrier in order to develop effective and biocompatible drug delivery systems. The synthesized nanocarrier is basically composed of peptide amphiphiles comprising a micelle forming a Pro-Pro-Pro-Lys-Lys-Lys peptide sequence with an attached anthracene fluorophore. Anthracene containing an inner core of the micelle can serve as a storage site for poorly watersoluble drugs.

In this study, we reported the synthesis of a new tribranched macromolecule liquid crystal with triazine in the centre. The central triazine core is bonded via sequences of Sonigashira coupling to 3 triazine unites through acetylenic bridges. The triazines at the periphery are substituted with 2 chiral citronellyloxy side groups. The salt of the resulting star-shaped macromolecule, which was oily at room temperature, with 4-dodecyloxybenzoic acid at 1:1 ratio exhibited a Smectic C (SmC) mesophase.

Salmonella enterica is a significant foodborne pathogen, which can be transmitted via several distinct routes, and reports on acquisition of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are increasing. To better understand the association between human Salmonella clinical isolates and the potential environmental/animal reservoirs, whole genome sequencing (WGS) was used to investigate the epidemiology and AMR patterns within Salmonella isolates from two adjacent US states.

In mammals, fine-tuned regulation of gene expression leads to transcription initiation from diverse transcription start sites (TSSs) and multiple core promoters. Although polysome association is a critical step in translation, whether polysome selectively uses TSSs and core promoters and how this could impact translation remains elusive.

DNA sequencing is at the core of many molecular biology laboratories. Despite its long history, there is a lack of user-friendly Sanger sequencing data analysis tools that can be run interactively as a web application or at large-scale in batch from the command-line.

As global warming continues, heat stress (HS) is becoming an increasingly significant factor limiting plant growth and reproduction, especially for cool-season grass species. The objective of this study was to determine the transcriptional regulatory network of Cleistogenes songorica under HS via transcriptome profiling, identify of gene families and comparative analysis across major Poaceae species.

The intrinsic muscles of the foot are key contributors to foot function and are important to evaluate in lower limb disorders. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), provides a non-invasive option to measure muscle morphology and composition, which are primary determinants of muscle function. Ultra-high-field (7-T) magnetic resonance imaging provides sufficient signal to evaluate the morphology of the intrinsic foot muscles, and, when combined with chemical-shift sequences, measures of muscle composition can be obtained.

A phylogeny postulates shared ancestry relationships among organisms in the form of a binary tree. Phylogenies attempt to answer an important question posed in biology: what are the ancestor-descendent relationships between organisms? At the core of every biological problem lies a phylogenetic component.

Phylogenetic-based classification of M. tuberculosis and other bacterial genomes is a core analysis for studying evolutionary hypotheses, disease outbreaks and transmission events. Whole genome sequencing is providing new insights into the genomic variation underlying intra- and inter-strain diversity, thereby assisting with the classification and molecular barcoding of the bacteria.

Cloning and identification of an ACO gene involved in ethylene production pathway from Ginkgo biloba
1-Aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) oxidase (ACO), is one of the core enzymesin the ethylene biosynthesis pathway, which catalyzes the final step in ethylene biosynthesis converting ACC to ethylene, cyanide, CO2, dehydroascorbate and water with inputs of Fe(II), ascorbic, bicarbonate and oxygen. In the present study, a 1288 bp cDNA sequence fragment of the ACO gene (designated as GbACO) was isolated from ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) leaves by using reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) with two PCR primers designed according to the ginkgo transcriptome data.

Mining elite genes within rice landraces is of importance for the improvement of cultivated rice. An association mapping for12 agronomic traits was carried out using a core collection of rice consisting of 100 landraces (Panel 1) with 44 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. Our results showed that (1) 76significant (P, 0.05) trait-marker associations were detected using mixed linear model (MLM) within Panel 1 in two years, among which 32% were identical with previously mapped QTLs, and 11 significant associations had.

Plants in nature are constantly exposed to a variety of abiotic and biotic stresses which limits their growth and production. Enhancing crop yield and production to feed exponentially growing global population in a sustainable manner by reduced chemical fertilization and agrochemicals will be a big challenge. Recently, the targeted application of beneficial plant microbiome and their cocktails to counteract abiotic and biotic stress is gaining momentum and becomes an exciting frontier of research.

The American cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon Ait.) is one of only three widely-cultivated fruit crops native to North America- the other two are blueberry (Vaccinium spp.) and native grape (Vitis spp.). In terms of taxonomy, cranberries are in the core Ericales, an order for which genome sequence data are currently lacking.
