Curvature for curves

  • This article presents an improved procedure for detecting single damage in beam-like structures. Many damage detection methods are based on the analysis of beam natural frequency shifts in damaged and intact states and its analytical modal curvatures. They identify the damage by constructing curves of damage coefficients along the beam and visually determining the point of their mutual intersection.

  • Global postural re-education (GPR) is a physiotherapy treatment approach for pediatric idiopathic scoliosis (IS), where the physiotherapist qualitatively assesses scoliotic curvature reduction potential (with a manual correction) and patient’s ability to self-correct (self-correction).

  • The Cobb angle is proposed as the “disease process” outcome for scoliosis research because therapies aim to correct or stop curve progression. While the Scoliosis Research Society recommends the Cobb angle as the primary outcome, the Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment prioritises, as a general goal, patient related outcomes over Cobb angle progression.

  • This paper proposes a detecting and evaluating corrugation defect method for high speed railway inspection system mainly based on histogram curves on both vertical and horizontal direction. The preliminary results achieved from the above analysis are combined in a single image to eliminate false positive defects and noises. The detected defects is last classified into two main categories to assess the level of danger of damage. Our experimentals achieved the precision of with-defect rail detection reaches 98.9% and the correct classification of defects is 97.5%.

  • Based on an extended space-time symmetry a new attempt to search for links between general relativity and quantum mechanics is proposed. A simplified cylindrical model of gravitational geometrical dynamics leads to a microscopic geodesic description of strongly curved extradimensional space-time which implies a duality between an emission law of microscopic gravitational waves and the quantum mechanical equations of free elementary particles. Consequently, the Heisenberg indeterminism would originate from the time-space curvatures.

  • We establish new results and introduce new methods in the theory of measurable orbit equivalence, using bounded cohomology of group representations. Our rigidity statements hold for a wide (uncountable) class of groups arising from negative curvature geometry.

  • Invariant measures for the geodesic flow on the unit tangent bundle of a negatively curved Riemannian manifold are a basic and well-studied subject. This paper continues an investigation into a 2-dimensional analog of this flow for a 3-manifold N . Namely, the article discusses 2-dimensional surfaces immersed into N whose product of principal curvature equals a constant k between 0 and 1, surfaces which are called k-surfaces.

  • These lectures intend to give a self-contained exposure of some techniques for computing the evolution of plane curves. The motions of interest are the so-called motions by curvature. They mean that, at any instant, each point of the curve moves with a normal velocity equal to a function of the curvature at this point. This kind of evolution is of some interest in differential geometry, for instance in the problem of minimal surfaces.

  • This book is devoted to the rst acquaintance with the di erential geometry Therefore it begins with the theory of curves in three-dimensional Euclidean spac E. Then the vectorial analysis in E is stated both in Cartesian and curvilinea coordinates, afterward the theory of surfaces in the space E is considered. The newly fashionable approach starting with the concept of a di erentiabl manifold, to my opinion, is not suitable for the introduction to the subject.

  • Average depth model has a variety of applications in hydraulic engineering, especially in applications that flow depth is much smaller than the width of the flow. In this method the vertical variation is negligible and the hydraulic variables average integrated from channel bed to the surface free for the vertical axis. in equations arising management, pure hydrostatic pressure is assumed that not really valid in the case of flow in the bed is curved and can not be described curvature effects of the bed.
