Estimating punching shear capacity (PSC) of steel fibre reinforced concrete slabs (SFRCS) is a crucial task in structural design. This study investigates the performances of artificial neural networks trained by the adaptive moment estimation (Adam) method in dealing with the task of interest. To alleviate overfitting problem, decoupled weight decay (AdamW) and L2 regularization (AdamL2) are used. A dataset including 140 samples has been used to train and verify the machine learning approaches.

Parameter estimation in biological models is a common yet challenging problem. In this work we explore the problem for gene regulatory networks modeled by differential equations with unknown parameters, such as decay rates, reaction rates, Michaelis-Menten constants, and Hill coefficients. We explore the question to what extent parameters can be efficiently estimated by appropriate experimental selection.

Twenty Five lignolytic fungi were isolated from decaying wood samples and were screened for the laccase production using guaiacol and ABTS as indicator compounds. The positive isolates were confirmed for the presence of laccase using Azure B and quantitative enzyme assay in presence of catalase using ABTS as substrate. Further laccase producing capacity of fungus was estimated in seven different media where Czapex Dox medium showed highest enzymatic activity of 17.2 U/ml.

This paper reports on the investigation of memory data retention of a nano-organic material-based nonvolatile memory in high-temperature environments. The decay of memory state current was theoretically presented as a stretched-exponential law.

We study the initial-boundary value problem for a system of nonlinear wave equations with nonlinear damping and source terms, in a bounded domain. The decay estimates of the energy function are established by using Nakao’s inequality. The nonexistence of global solutions is discussed under some conditions on the given parameters.

Borotellurite glasses doped with Sm3+ ions were prepared by a melt–quenching technique. The studies on optical characterization of Sm3+ ions have been carried out through absorption, emission and decay spectra. Judd-Ofelt (JO) intensity analysis has been presented and JO parameters were calculated for Sm3+ ions in borotellurite glasses. Radiative properties such as transition probabilities, branching ratios, radiative lifetime of 4G5/2 level and quantum efficiency were estimated by using JO parameters.

This is the second in a series of three papers in which we initiate the study of very rough solutions to the initial value problem for the Einstein vacuum equations expressed relative to wave coordinates. By very rough we mean solutions which cannot be constructed by the classical techniques of energy estimates and Sobolev inequalities. A final reason to believe a connection between pollution and asthma might exist is that studies with more convincing empirical designs have found consistent effects of pollution on children’s health. Chay and Greenstone (2001) use declines in pollution that resulted from the 1980-82 recession and find a strong link between total suspended particles and infant mortality. Since most infant mortality is due to respiratory failure, it is reasonable to suspect that pollution could be related to other respiratory illnesses, such as asthma.
