Physiological and morphological traits of flag leaf play important roles in determining crop grain yield and biomass. In order to understand genetic basis controlling physiological and morphological traits of flag leaf, a double haploid (DH) population derived from the cross of Huaai 11 × Huadamai 6 was used to detect quantitative trait locus (QTL) underlying 7 physiological and 3 morphological traits at the pre-filling stage in year 2012 and 2013.

A series of dimeric unsymmetrical liquid crystals derived from heterocyclic 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid exhibiting smectic A and nematic phase are reported. All compounds were prepared by the condensation of 4’-(R-(4- formylphenoxy)butoxy)biphenyl-4-carboxylate with 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid in ethanol. The mesomorphic properties were investigated by DSC and POM, where the type of phase depends on the length of spacer alkoxy chains and the length of the terminal chain.

We derived a protein hydrolysate with rich content, which includes proteinogenic and nonproteinogenic amino acids, from chicken feathers by using an alkaline hydrolysis procedure with high yield success. After foliar application of aqueous solutions (0.05%, 0.075%, and 0.1%) of chicken feather protein hydrolysate (CFPH) to the seedlings of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. ‘Altındane’ and ‘Bezostaya’), their effects were evaluated on important physiological and biochemical parameters.

A great wealth of structural information about phosphazenes can be gleaned from the combined spectroscopic and crystallographic data. When data from 31P NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography are put together like pieces in a puzzle, a number of correlations can be obtained for phosphazene derivatives. A systematic study concerning the correlations among the structural parameters (e.g., 31P NMR data, endocyclic/exocyclic NPN bond angles and bond lengths) revealed some characteristics of mono- and di-spirocyclophosphazene derivatives bearing 4- fluoro/nitrophenylmethyl pendant arm/arms.

Genetic improvement of root system architecture is a promising approach for improved uptake of water and mineral nutrients distributed unevenly in the soil. To identify genomic regions associated with the length of different root types in rice, we quantified root system architecture in a set of 26 chromosome segment substitution lines derived from a cross between lowland indica rice, IR64, and upland tropical japonica rice, Kinandang Patong, (IK-CSSLs), using 2D & 3D root phenotyping platforms.

Non-covalent interactions in term of hydrogen bond in complexes of chloroform with hydrogen cyanide and its fluoride derivative were investigated thoroughly by scanning the potential energy surface. The complexes of both examined systems show blue-shift at their most stable geometries. All of systems experience the contraction in C-H bond length at long distances. At specific RN-H distance, the C-H bond of CHCl3 molecule in complexes with FCN tends to be more blue-shifted than one in connection with HCN counterpart.

Advances in Illumina DNA sequencing technology have produced longer paired-end reads that increasingly have sequence overlaps. These reads can be merged into a single read that spans the full length of the original DNA fragment, allowing for error correction and accurate determination of read coverage.

The genetic nature of character association for various traits was studied in Rabi sorghum using F2 populations derived from four crosses of M 35-1 with specialty varieties viz., AKJ-1 (flaking), KMJ - 1 (popping), and SMJ-1 & RSJ-1 (hurda purpose). These varieties derived from landraces are recommended for cultivation in Northern Dry Zone of Karnataka.

The present study was carried out to estimate genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for 14 yield and yield related traits and 6 grain quality traits in 150 genotypes. The results showed that ANOVA for all the 20 traits under study revealed highly significant differences this indicates that a wide range of variability was present among 150 genotypes.

The present investigation was carried out involving thirty hybrids which were derived by crossing ten lines with three testers. These hybrids were evaluated along with their parents in randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. The recorded data was subjected to Line × Tester analysis. The analysis of variance for combining ability revealed that the mean sum of squares due to parents and hybrids were highly significant for almost all the characters except for days required to 50% pistillate flowering, vine length, number of primary branches per plant and internodal length.

Upland rice grows on 19 million ha, about 15% of the world's rice plantation [2]. The production of upland rice is crucial to agricultural economy of many countries [15]. The yield of upland rice is very low with an average of about 1 t/ha. Drought is a major constraint to the productivity of upland rice.

Analysis of complex mixture containing three or more components represented a challenge for analysts. New smart spectrophotometric methods have been recently evolved with no limitation. A study of different novel and smart spectrophotometric techniques for resolution of severely overlapping spectra were presented in this work utilizing isosbestic points present in diferent absorption spectra, normalized spectra as a divisor and dual wavelengths.

The study was carried out to assess the general combining ability of the parents and specific combining ability of the hybrids, using line x tester mating design. Fifty hybrids (derived from mating two testers with twenty-five lines in L x T design) along with their parents and checks (M35-1, BJV 44 and PKV Kranti) were evaluated during the rabi 2018-19. The ratio of σ2 GCA/σ2 SCA was less than unity for all the characters except for panicle indicating preponderance of non-additive gene action.

Two cultivars Prajwal and PhuleRajani with three bulb stages were selected freshly harvested bulb (B0), three weeks after uprooting (B1) and six weeks after uprooting (B2) were irradiated by G1-2.5Gy, D2-5.0Gy, G3-7.5Gy, G4-10.0Gy and G5-15.0 Gy of gamma rays along with control (G0-0Gy) without irradiation. Gamma radiation affected the sprouting in variety Prajwal where above 2.
