Dimension of a module

  • Ebook "Homological dimensions of modules" were prepared for a series of ten lectures given at Regional Conference of the Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences in June 1971. The bulk of the lectures were on projective dimensions of "very large" modules. Although the material in these notes is not new, there are several places where existing work has been simplified. For example, a commutative local nondomain of global dimension 3 is described without reference to analysis, and the dimension of a quotient field of a polynomial ring rather than a regular local ring is calculated.

  • The coordination of teaching staff is one of the main lines of work in the Bologna Process, which is also essential to develop the right skills and maximise the role of students as an active learning component. The use of active, interdisciplinary methodologies has opened up a new dimension in universities, requiring the elimination of the once componential, individual structure, making us look for new areas of exchange that make it possible for students' training to be developed jointly.

  • In this paper, we introduce the notions of non Cohen-Macaulay in dimension more than s locus. It is clear that a Cohen-Macaulay module in dimension more than s for s = -1 is Cohen-Macaulay in module.

  • We investigate the relations between a radical submodule N of a module M being a finite intersection of prime submodules of M and the factor module M/N having finite uniform dimension. It is proved that if N is a radical submodule of a module M over a ring R such that M/N has finite uniform dimension, then N is a finite intersection of prime submodules.

  • Let (A, B) be a cotorsion pair in R-Mod. We define and study notions of A dimension and B dimension of unbounded complexes, which is given by means of dg - projective resolution and dg - injective resolution, respectively. As an application, we extend the Gorenstein flat dimension of complexes, which was defined by Iacob. Gorenstein cotorsion, FP-projective, FP-injective, Ding projective, and Ding injective dimension are also extended from modules to complexes.

  • In this paper, the notions of weak-projective modules and weak-projective dimension over commutative domain R are given. It is shown that over semisimple rings with weak global dimension 1, these modules are equivalent to weak-injective modules. The weak-projective dimension measures how far away a domain is from being a Prufer domain.

  • Let (R, m) be a Noetherian local ring and M a finitely generated R-module of dimension d. Let x = (x1, . . . , xd) be a system of parameters of M. In this paper, we give some applications of dd-sequences in the study of certain Koszul homology modules. Recall that the notion of dd-sequence was introduced by N. T. Cuong and D. T. Cuong [4], which is a distinguished type of d-sequence defined by C. Huneke.

  • That public face has or may have an extra dimension – sprezzatura. The term, used by Baldassar Castiglione in his work ‘The book of the courtier’, was described by Stemp (2006, 6) as ‘a lightness of touch that a well educated man should have in a variety of activities such as music painting and writing’. Though determined by its time, the term anticipates the evolution of aesthetic labour. That is the main thrust, the main question of this paper. Castiglione goes on to state (1528, 67) that sprezzatura is ‘to practise in all things a certain nonchalance...

  • Using a variety of methods developed in the literature (in particular, the theory of weak Hopf algebras), we prove a number of general results about fusion categories in characteristic zero. We show that the global dimension of a fusion category is always positive, and that the S-matrix of any (not necessarily hermitian) modular category is unitary. We also show that the category of module functors between two module categories over a fusion category is semisimple, and that fusion categories and tensor functors between them are undeformable (generalized Ocneanu rigidity).

  • Optical Transmitters The role of the optical transmitter is to convert an electrical input signal into the corresponding optical signal and then launch it into the optical fiber serving as a communication channel. The major component of optical transmitters is an optical source. Fiber-optic communication systems often use semiconductor optical sources such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and semiconductor lasers because of several inherent advantages offered by them.

  • This module discusses arrays, strings, and pointers. Although these may seem to be three disconnected topics, they aren’t. In C++ they are intertwined, and an understanding of one aids in the understanding of the others. An array is a collection of variables of the same type that are referred to by a common name. Arrays may have from one to several dimensions, although the one-dimensional array is the most common. Arrays offer a convenient means of creating lists of related variables. The array that you will probably use most often is the character array, because it...

  • The ability to work with sets is critical both to retrieving data from an online analytical processing (OLAP) cube in a multidimensional expression (MDX) query statement and creating powerful MDX expressions. In this module, students will be introduced to functions that return sets of members. Some of the functions retrieve sets from the metadata defined in the cube’s dimensions. Some of the functions manipulate those sets to create new sets that meet specific analytical purposes.

  • In this module, students will learn how to create very simple multidimensional expressions (MDX). These are expressions that use constant values or expressions that display the names of members. Students will also learn how to work with members in a dimension and how to use MDX member functions to navigate from one member to another.
