With the rapid growth of economic development, the circular economy has been raised in many international environmental and socio-economic conferences and forums nowadays. The recycling of plastic waste was one of those aspects. This paper studied the potential of directly reusing plastic bottle caps as bio-carriers in moving bed bioreactors without further waste processing.

Water quality indicated by chemical oxygen demand, total nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, and total phosphorus from the effluent complied with the widely accepted limits on domestic wastewater discharge. Our results demonstrate that green roofs can be designed for the ecological treatment of domestic wastewater on the household scale.

The main objective of this study was to examine the efficacy and capacity of using hydroponic systems in municipal pollutant removal at household scale. Three pilot scaled hydroponic systems [dimension for each system: 4.5 m (L) x Φ 114 mm] were installed to investigate the optimal age of vegetable, planting density and retention time for household wastewater treatment, respectively.

The paper indicates that Pistia stratiotes were used for wastewater treatment about twenty days with 0 individual/tank, five individuals/tank, seven individuals/tank, nine individuals/tank. Every experiment was conducted three times in the same way with 140 L for each tank. The experimental result shows that the amount of Pistia stratiotes increases and reach the highest quality in Treatment 3 on the 15th day.

As the global population grows and many developing countries modernize, the importance of water supply and water treatment becomes a much greater factor in the welfare of nations. In similar fashion, the need to address both domestic and industrial wastes generated by these nations moves higher on the scale of importance. Clearly, in today’s world the competition for water resources coupled with the unfortunate commingling of wastewater discharges with freshwater supplies creates additional pressure on treatment systems....
