Economic development level

Cash holding is an important decision that affects many other choices in a firm. Previous studies have revealed a range of factors affecting cash holdings, but little is known about a macro variable: air pollution, which is quite a pressing issue recently and globally. This study examines the association between air pollution and cash holdings using a sample of listed firms in Vietnam, a developing country that has a worrisome level of air pollution.

The general policy implication is that environmental policies should not be uniform for all countries. Environmental policy must be country‐and polluter‐specific to solve environmental problems faced by a country. A well‐designed environmental policy should reflect the specific needs of a country, considering the country’s level of economic development as well as specific environmental pollutants.

Self-Help Group is a small voluntary association of poor people preferably the same socio-economic back drop. The micro- credit given to them to start enterprises and it can be for all women and all men groups. However, it has been the experience that women’s groups perform better in all the important activities of SHGs. SHG is a medium for the development of saving habit among the women. Majority of the respondents (65.00 per cent) had medium level of the knowledge about SHG & its activities. In case of aspect wise knowledge, respondents had highest knowledge about the legal rights.

The thesis provides theoretical findings that the application of carbon taxation has the negative effect that lowering the investment level of the firm, however, at the same time, it also has the positive effect of restricting investors with low technology level and encouraging investors with higher technology level at the same carbon tax rate.
