  • Social enterprises have been growing very fast in recent years in Vietnam.   • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of cross-country characteristics on acquirers’ target status choice in cross-border mergers and acquisitions across 41 emerging markets. The paper first reviews the existing literature and develops the related hypotheses, in conjunction with the objectives of this paper. We then describe the data employed, variable measurement and examine the effects of cross-country characteristics on the acquirers’ target status choice in cross-border mergers and acquisitions while controlling for firm-level and deal-specific characteristics.

  • This research report studies the risk-adjusted performance of the major international equity indices against their ESG screened equivalents (MSCI World, MSCI USA, MSCI Emerging Markets, and MSCI Europe). The daily closing prices, returns, standard deviations, and Sharpe ratio characteristics are analyzed from 2013 to 2020. The current literature available from highly rated journals on the subject is also considered, which provided mixed results on the subject matter. We found no academic papers focusing specifically on analyzing the performance of indices and their ESG screened equivalents.

  • The high data frequency not only helps to validate our results, but also allows us to advance some analysis. For example, in Chapter 5, the fund weekly data are used to calculate the risk-adjusted abnormal return for each year from 2000-2007. Then, it turns into a panel data allowing us to perform a multidimensional (panel) regression on fund characteristics. Furthermore, this is the first empirical study of an emerging market which includes flexible funds in the sample. In theory, a flexible fund is in some ways similar to equity funds since its main assets are also stocks.

  • Although the characteristics of emerging markets are relatively diverse, Thailand can represent the rest of the emerging countries, those in Asia in particular. This is because the Thai stock market exhibits several behaviours which are consistent with the average for emerging markets. For example, while the ten-year annualized growth of emerging markets ranged from -0.03% (Taiwan) to 20.45% (India), the Thai stock market grew by 12.36% per year and this figure is comparable to the growth of the MSCI Emerging Markets index 1 , 11.69% (MSCI, 2010).
