  • This paper presents an empirical analysis of public energy access imperative on economic growth in South Africa. The paper is motivated by current paucity of research regarding rural energy provision and economic growth in South Africa. Hence, this research adds a nuanced contribution to the literature by examining the relationship between rural and urban energy provision and economic growth in South Africa. Time series data on public electricity provision for South Africa were collected from 1998 to 2017 from the World Bank economic indicators’ data archive.

  • The application of the muti nozzle cross flow turbine as a power plant in remote areas that is not affordable by electricity supply and transportation is very effective and suitable in rural areas that utilize the potential energy of water as a small and large scale energy source. The results of research on the use of multi-nozzle cross flow turbines are able to produce turbine power of 5.011 kWatt as a driving generator that produces 4.259 kWatt of electric power, strongly supporting the provision of electrical energy for remote areas.

  • This report provides a summary of some of the existing knowledge and literature related to the production of woody biomass from bioenergy with a particular focus on the economic perspective. The most commonly discussed woody biomass feedstocks are described along with results of existing economic modeling studies related to the provision of biomass from short rotation woody crops, harvest residues, and hazardous fuel reduction efforts. Additionally, the existing social science literature is used to highlight some challenges to widespread production of biomass energy.

  • Decarbonising the world‟s energy system to avoid locking-in polluting technologies and unacceptably high emission levels will require doubling existing investment levels to around USD 2 trillion a year or 2% of GDP. Governments understand that large sums of capital will be required, and many are also realising the need for further recourse to private capital as public finances have become strained in many developed countries. Simultaneously, banking sector provision of long-term finance has become tighter due deleveraging and new financial regulations.

  • More generally, private participation can successfully improve access to infrastructure services (telecommunication, energy, transport, water), where workable competition can be introduced, for example in many telecommunication systems. In non- competitive markets, case by case decisions are required to assess whether public or private provision may be preferable depending, in particular, on whether more risks for commercial performance can be shifted effectively to the private sector.

  • For simple applications, switching devices such as contactors or solid-state relays can be used to control electrical power. The electrical power in a process can be regulated by varying the ON and OFF times of these devices. But in many processes this provision of energy in large blocks will cause significant variations in the process output. As an example, it would not be possible to control lighting levels simply by using such two-state on/off switching elements. Neither could good temperature controllers be implemented in this way...
