Coupling reagents toward direct arylation of C2-H bonds in aryl azoles are often limited to aryl halides. Herein we report a functionalization of the acidic sp2 C-H bonds in benzothiazoles with benzaldehyde derivatives. Reactions proceeded in the presence of commercially ready CuFe2O4 catalyst. Scope of functional groups included chloro, nitro, cyano, and ester groups.

In this study, we used the reliable GC-FID/MS technique to analyze the methyl ester derivatives of 37 different kinds of fatty acids. The results showed that high saturated fat concentration in all samples was mostly palmitic acid, whereas the low unsaturated fatty acid content in the cis form was primarily oleic acid and linoleic acid. The amount of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats is quite low.

Usnic acid isolated from lichen was a potential bioactivity compound. It has a broad spectrum bioactivity, including antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anticancer… However, low solubility in water limited its application. Many researchs have done to overcome the restriction. Recent results showed that usnic acid derivatives bearing triazole, enamine, pyrazole and benzylidene groups had strong antiviral and anticancer activities. Thus, investigation of usnic acid derivatives synthesis was an attractive aspect due to the diversity of bioactivities of usnic acid derivatives.

Using various chromatography methods, three merosesquiterpenes belonging to sesquiterpene quinone type, neodactyloquinone (1), dactyloquinone D (2), and dactyloquinone C (3) together with two indole derivatives indole-3- aldehyde (4) and indole-3-cacboxylic methyl ester (5) were isolated from the methanol extract of the Vietnamese marine sponge Smenospongia cerebriformis. Their structures were determined by 1D-, 2D-NMR spectra, HR-ESI-MS and in comparison with those reported in the literature.

The polar glycolipids were isolated from the thermophilic bacteriaMeiothermus taiwanensisATCC BAA-400 by eth-anol extraction and purified by Sephadex LH-20 and silica gel column chromatography. The fatty acid composition of O-acyl groups in the glycolipids was obtained by gas chro-matography mass spectroscopy analysis on their methyl esters derived from methanolysis and was made mainly of C15:0(34.0%) andC17:0(42.3%) fattyacids, withthemajority as branched fatty acids (over 80%).

The effects of protection of chylomicron remnants from oxidation on their uptake and induction of lipid accumula-tion in macrophages were investigated using chylomicron remnant-like particles (CRLPs) containing the lipophilic antioxidant drug, probucol, andmacrophages derived from thehumanmonocyte cell line,THP-1.The total lipidcontent of THP-1 macrophages was markedly higher (·2.2) after 48 h of incubation of THP-1 macrophages with CRLPs containing probucol (pCRLPs) when compared to CRLPs without probucol, and this was because of increases in tri-acylglycerol (·2.3) and cholesterol (·1.

The purpose of this work was to study the catalytic properties of rat buty-rylcholinesterase with benzoylcholine (BzCh) and N-alkyl derivatives of BzCh (BCHn) as substrates. Complex hysteretic behaviour was observed in the approach to steady-state kinetics for each ester. Hysteresis consisted of a long lag phase with damped oscillation.

Nonenzymatic covalent binding (glycation) of reactive aldehydes (from glu-cose or metabolic processes) to low-density lipoproteins has been previ-ously shown to result in lipid accumulation in a murine macrophage cell line. The formation of such lipid-laden cells is a hallmark of atheroscler-osis.

In organic chemistry, a carbonyl group is a functional group composed of a carbon atom double-bonded to an oxygen atom: C=O. It is common to several classes of organic compounds, as part of many larger functional groups. The term carbonyl can also refer to carbon monoxide as a ligand in an inorganic or organometallic complex. Other organic carbonyls are urea and the carbamates, the derivatives of acyl chlorides chloroformates and phosgene, carbonate esters, thioesters, lactones, lactams, hydroxamates, and isocyanates.

Carbonylation is one of the most important reactions leading to C-C bond formation. Direct synthesis of carbonyl compounds with CO gives rise to carboxylic acids and their derivatives, such as esters, amides, lactones, lactams etc. The process can be represented by the simple reactions of Scheme 5.1. In general, carbonylation proceeds via activation of a C-H or a C-X bond in the olefins and halides or alcohols, respectively, followed by COinsertion into the metal-carbon bond.
