Example model

This thesis addresses important issues about how to make game characters and virtual agents more realistic or believable by using cognitive-social personality theories. We begin motivation by discussing two examples. The first is from a television series and the second is a more concrete example that will be used throughout the thesis to explain concepts and the model. These examples represent the ideal goal of our work.

Finance is considered as the lifeblood of the economy and it is integral to a country's economic growth and stability. However, this perception has been called into question, particularly following the global financial crisis, giving rise to new research questions. For example, does too much finance harm economic growth? And does the financial sector serve society's economic and social needs? This thesis aims to provide cross-sectional and time-series evidence on the macroeconomic consequences of financialisation in an international context.

The 2020 Samos, M7.0 earthquake was characterized by an unusual bi-modal-type distribution of damage: limited damage in the nearfield (especially northern Samos coast) and serious localized damage in multi-story buildings in the far field (İzmir area). This pattern is not consistent with the typical distribution of isoseismal lines, and it seems not to represent an isolated effect; the 2014 Samothraki- Gökçeada M6.9 earthquake, for example, may in fact represent a parallel, though at smaller scale.

This paper seeks to draw together ideas from different sources to place washback in the context of other possibilities. The concepts of adaptive implementation and programmed implementation are taken from Henrichsen’s hybrid model of the diffusion/implementation of innovation in education systems. Washback is shown to act in parallel to but distinct from programmed implementation. The picture is completed with van Lier’s concept of wash-forward, first outlined in 1989 but subsequently neglected in the literature.

In this work, we have analyzed this problem for the example of N,N-dialkylamides in the presence of uranyl nitrate experimentally. Furthermore, we present a minimal model at nanoscale that allows rationalizing the experimental phenomena by connecting the molecular, mesoscopic and macroscopic scale and that allows predicting qualitative trends in viscosity.

Shikimate kinase was chosen as a convenient representative example of the subclass of a/b proteins with which to examine the mechanism of protein folding. In this paper we report on the refolding of the enzyme after denaturation in urea. As shown by the changes in secondary and tertiary structure monitored by far UV circular dichroism (CD) and fluorescence, respectively, the enzyme was fully unfolded in 4 M urea. Consolidation of applications in cloud computing environments presents a significant opportunity for energy optimization. As a first step toward enabling energy efficient consolidation, we study the inter-relationships between energy consumption, resource utilization, and performance of consolidated workloads. The study reveals the energy performance trade-offs for consolidation and shows that optimal operating points exist. We model the consolidation problem as a modified bin packing problem and illustrate it with an example.
