Underpinned by the technology-organisation-environment framework, this paper aims to present a theoretical model of barriers to e-marketplace adoption by Vietnamese SMEs. The theoretical model reveals twelve critical barriers, including lack of benefits, lack of compatibility, complexity, perceived risks, costs, lack of top management support, lack of knowledge readiness, lack of financial readiness, lack of innovativeness, lack of customer support, lack of external support, and lack of government support.

In this study, project management posited as a technological aspect, leadership involvement as an organizational aspect while external support depicted as an environmental aspect. An empirical analysis was done in the context of the industrial sector of Pakistan. This changing external environment is the context for this 'practitioner research' investigative project - the development of a motorsports program as a case study of innovation and entrepreneurship at Wodonga Institute of TAFE. A participant-observer research approach was applied to examine the perceptions of the stakeholders about the development of the program. Data was collected through semi-formal interviews with stakeholders, maintaining a reflective research journal and reviewing related literature.

The research extends the understanding of these factors through the incorporation of Absorptive Capacity (ACAP). Accordingly, a model is developed that integrates ACAP, MVC and MV with market-driving innovation performance, comprising before-launch stage performance, post-launch stage performance and financial performance. External and internal structural factors relevant to the firm such as size and the nature of its competitive environment are also considered as moderators in the model.

The data obtained from the questionnaire with 60 students. The findings show that students first-year faced both internal and external challenges, especially the latter ones regarding the limitation of English speaking environment and extracurricular activities. Possible measures are proposed to tackle such challenges in helping students speak English more effectively. The study also show some benefits of English Club in improving student’s Speaking Skill.
