  • The objective of the present study is to produce base layer winter active sportswear fabrics using natural and synthetic fibres and their blends which will deliver good comfort properties. Polyester, wool and bamboo fibres were selected for this study. Polyester is the most common fibre used in sportswear, wool is increasingly being used in sportswear and bamboo is a relatively new fibre that offers properties suitable for base layer sportswear. Bamboo is also regarded as a 'green' and eco-sustainable fibre.

  • Passion fruit peel (PFP) is a by-product from the fruit processing industry, accounting for approximately 50 % of the fruit weight. It is well known for its health properties, although few studies evaluated its rheological properties. PFP polysaccharides (PFPP) contain a high methoxyl pectin (HMP), specifically a 70 % methylesterified homogalacturonan.

  • Bullet-resistance and weight are important features of anti ballistic materials. Kevlar fibers are the widest reinforcement material for military and civil systems due to their excellent impact resistance and high strength-to-weight ratio. Kevlar fibre based composites are used for designing personal helmets and body armor to effectively stop both fragmentation and bullets.

  • The sorption isotherms were best described by the Freundlich model rather than Langmuir or linear models. We determined that using wood fibre in constructed wetlands would require around 35–66% less area to remove the selected micropollutants, compared to soil as matrix. Thus our results show the potential of using hydroponic substrata such as wood - and coconut fibre to both remove micropollutants in, and reduce the footprint of constructed wetlands.

  • The dramatic increase in myotomal muscle mass in post-hatching fish is related to their ability to lastingly produce new muscle fibres, a process termed hyperplasia. The molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying fish muscle hyperplasia largely remain unknown. In this study, we aimed to characterize intrinsic properties of myogenic cells originating from hyperplasic fish muscle.
