Apoptosis or programmed cell death is an inherent part of the development and homeostasis of multicellular organisms. Dysregulation of apoptosis is implicated in the pathogenesis of diseases such as cancer, neurodegenera-tive diseases and autoimmune disorders. Tumour necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is able to induce apoptosis by binding death receptor (DR)4 (TRAIL-R1) and DR5 (TRAIL-R2), which makes TRAIL an interesting and promising therapeutic target.

The Research Centre for Forest Tree Improvement (RCFTI) is a unit within the Forest Science Institute of Vietnam (FSIV) which specialises in tree improvement research and delivery of genetically improved seed and planting stock to meet the planting requirements of the Government of Vietnam (GoV) as well as community and private sector plantation programs. Common carp is one of the most important cultured species in Vietnam. The goal of the carp breed program was creation of a common carp breed with stable genetic qualities such as fast growth, high survival rate and attractive appearance.
