In this work, two different thermodynamic softwares, ANGE using the TBASE database, and OPENCALPHAD using the TAF-ID (Thermodynamics of Advanced Fuels – International Database), have been integrated into the GERMINAL V2 fuel performance code (of the PLEIADES platform) in order to evaluate the chemical state of (U,Pu)O2 fuel and fission products in sodium cooled fast reactors.

The signaling properties of the gasotransmitter molecule hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which is endogenously generated in plant cells, are mainly observed during persulfidation, a protein post-translational modification (PTM) that affects redox-sensitive cysteine residues. There is growing experimental evidence that H2S in higher plants may function as a mechanism of response to environmental stress conditions.

In seminiferous tubules, Sertoli cells provide structural and nutritional support for the developing germinal cells. Cellto-cell signaling and cell adhesion require proteoglycans expressed at the cell membrane. A preliminary biochemical and structural approach indicated that cell surface proteoglycans are mostly heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPG). Glypican-1, syndecans-1 and -4 were identified using a molecular approach.

Leaf explants of Echinacea purpurea L. taken from aseptically germinated seedlings were inoculated with A. tumefaciens strains EHA105, carrying a binary vector conferring herbicide resistant bar gene and fungal resistant chitinase gene. Glufosinate ammonium‐resistant shoots were regenerated on a medium containing BAP and NAA at a concentration of 4.88 and 0.053 μM, respectively. A subsequent transfer of shoots to medium containing BAP was necessary for stem elongation and leaf development.

Two thioredoxin h isoforms, HvTrxh1 and HvTrxh2, were identified in two and one spots, respectively, in a proteome analysis of barley (Hordeum vulgare) seeds based on 2D gel electrophoresis and MS. HvTrxh1 was observed in 2D gel patterns of endosperm, aleurone layer and embryo of mature barley seeds, andHvTrxh2was presentmainly in the embryo. During germination, HvTrxh2 decreased in abun-dance and HvTrxh1 decreased in the aleurone layer and endospermbut remainedat high levels in the embryo.

A generic sample normalization method applicable in relative comparison of mRNAs quantified with real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is proposed. The method was applied in samples obtained from tomato seeds after osmopriming and aging treatments and from untreated seeds at early imbibition stage, when seeds had not completed germination.

We cloned a new cysteine proteinase of wheat seed origin, which hydro-lyzed the storage protein gliadin almost specifically, and was named glia-dain. Gliadain mRNA was expressed 1 day after the start of seed imbibition, and showed a gradual increase thereafter.

In the present study, an isoform of angiotensin-converting enzyme was characterized from the testis of a decapod crustacean, the crayfish Asta-cus leptodactylus. Angiotensin-converting enzyme cDNA, obtained by 3¢-to5¢ RACE of testis RNAs, codes for a predicted one-domain protein similar to the mammalian germinal isoform of angiotensin-converting enzyme.
