Glycemic control

Hyperglycemia is a relatively common condition in stroke patients, whether they have diabetes or not, and it is associated with adverse outcomes. Achieving target blood glucose levels has a partial impact on the results, but it is not the sole determinant. Objectives: We assessed the result of glycemic control among severe stroke patients.

Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels in whole blood samples are commonly used to diagnose diabetes and monitor the effectiveness of glycemic control. However, there have not been many studies evaluating changes in HbA1c concentration under different storage conditions and analytical methods.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the fourth and third most common cancer in Iran and the world, respectively. Carbohydrates can lead to the proliferation of cancer cells, including CRC. The current study aimed to investigate the association between glycemic load (GL), insulin load (IL), glycemic index (GI), insulin index (II), low-carbohydrate diet score (LCDS), and carbohydrate quality index (CQI) with CRC odds.

This risk appears elevated with worse glycemic control. The exact mechanism for this increased risk is unknown but there are several proposed causes. Vitamin E has shown to reduce cardiovascular events in patients with both diabetes and the 2-2 genotype but the safety of implementing such therapy remains unknown.

This study aimed to determine long-term effect of intensive insulin therapy on prevention, progression, and development of chronic diabetes complications, both micro and macrovascular events. This study also aimed to evaluate long-term sustainability of glycemic control of patients on intensive insulin treatment.

The importance of optimal postoperative glycemic control in cardiac patients remains unclear. Various glycemic targets have been prescribed to reduce wound infection and overall mortality rates. Aim of the work: To assess glucose control, as determined by time in range (TIR), in patients with glycemic targets of 6.0 to 8.1 mmol/L, and to determine factors related to poor control.

Although the proportion of older patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has increased, few studies have reported the factors affecting glucose levels in older patients with long-standing T2DM. This study assessed the determinants of glycemic control in older adults with T2DM of a duration of ≥10 years, including muscle mass, muscle quality, and β-cell function.

Hyperlipidaemia is considered a cause of other diseases that are clinically important and potentially life threatening. Combination of pea and barley as exclusive starch sources is known to interfere with glycemic control in diabetic dogs, but their effect on lipid profile of hiperlipidaemic dogs is yet to be evaluated.

Current international guideline recommends to maintain blood glucose level ≤ 180 mg/dL in acute ill patients, irrespective of presence of premorbid diabetes. However, there are studies suggested that optimal acute glycemic control should be adjusted according to premorbid glycemic control in patients with chronic hyperglycemia. Accordingly, to obtain the information of premorbid glycemic control would be relevant.

Perioperative hyperglycemia is associated with poor outcomes yet evidence to guide intraoperative goals and treatment modalities during non-cardiac surgery are lacking. End-stage liver disease is associated with altered glucose homeostasis; patients undergoing liver transplantation display huge fluctuations in blood glucose (BG) and represent a population of great interest.

Glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) have been investigated as etiologic factors for some cancers, but epidemiological data on possible associations between dietary carbohydrate intake and esophageal cancer are scant. This study examined the association between GI, GL, and other dietary carbohydrate components and risk of adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus accounting for established risk factors.

Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4) inhibitors improve glycemic control by promoting GLP1-mediated glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppression of glucagon. Sitagliptin and vildagliptin have been shown to improve insulin sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
