This study aimed to screen the sera of goats and sheep from flocks suspected of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) infection by a newly standardized Mce-truncated ELISA (Mt-ELISA) kit for the detection of antibodies against MAP. Four diagnostic applied tests were evaluated including Indigenous plate-ELISA (IP-ELISA), Mt-ELISA, fecal Polymerase Chain Reaction (f-PCR) and fecal culture (FC).

Occurrence of haemonchosis and sudden death among goats were observed in Livestock Farm Complex (Goat Farm Unit), Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science that comprises a flock of 33 animals (22 numbers of Beetal crossbred and 11 numbers of Assam Hill Goat). The incidences were recorded during August-September, 2020. The morbidity rate of haemonchosis in the present study was recorded 66.67 % (22 nos.) and mortality rate was 27.28% (9 nos.).

A Peste des petits ruminant (PPR) is a highly contagious viral disease of sheep and goats characterized by high morbidity and mortality. The present study was conducted to determine comparative efficacy of F and N gene based reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction for molecular detection of PPR virus from clinical samples from goat flocks in Ambala district of Haryana.

Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is an OIE notifiable, highly contagious and fatal disease of small ruminants causing significant economic losses to the farmers in term of morbidity, mortality, preventive and treatment measures cost. The present study report three outbreaks of PPR in two districts of Punjab state affecting migratory flocks of goats in 2016-17. Younger animals were more susceptible to PPR than adults. None of the affected animals were vaccinated against PPR.

Phenotypic characterization of Nandidurga goats was conducted in its breeding tract. A total of 17 flocks were surveyed in 8 villages of Challakere and Chitradurga talukas of Chitradurga district. The observed flock size was 25-30 with 2-3 bucks, 12-14 does and about 10-12 kids. Smaller flocks were generally housed in the part of the residence, whereas the larger flocks (30-40 goats) were housed separately. Usually the goat sheds were of open type with a thatched/ iron sheet roof inside it and the area was guarded by some locally available materials.

Listeriosis caused by Listeria monocytogenes is an infectious and zoonotic disease affecting wide range of animals including ruminants. An outbreak of listeriosis was investigated in migratory flock of sheep and goat in Punjab. Outbreak of encephalitic listeriosis in sheep was diagnosed by characteristic clinical signs, histopathology and confirmed by Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Microscopically, there were multifocal areas of aggregation of neutrophils forming microabscesses a pathognomic lesion of the disease.

A prevalence study of PPR among small ruminants was conducted in five districts (Udaipur, Dungarpur, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh and Banswara) of southern Rajasthan including both vaccinated and unvaccinated flocks of sheep and goats. The overall seroprevalence of PPR virus antibodies in vaccinated small ruminants is 42% with highest prevalence in Chittorgarh (54.95%) and lowest in Banswara (12%). In unvaccinated group, the overall seroprevalence is 42.18% with highest prevalence in Banswara (66.07%) and lowest prevalence in Udaipur district (19.04%).

Sheep and goat brucellosis caused by Brucella melitensis, one of the most virulent Brucella species accounting for economic losses through abortion, stillbirths, reduction of milk yield and infertility. Disease has wide socioeconomic impact, in countries where, livestock sector is the major source of rural income. Early diagnosis is essential to minimise the spread of the disease besides public health importance. The present study reports the isolation, identification, biotyping and molecular confirmation of Brucella spp.

Present work was conducted during two seasons (winter and hot-humid) to investigate seasonal effect of transportation of goats at different flocking densities on physiological parameters in goats (Alpine x Beetal) supplemented with Vitamin C, Vitamin C + Electrolyte and Jaggery. Goats were of 10-12 months of age from LRC, NDRI Karnal. During the journey all the animals were kept off-feed and deprived of water.

Contagious pustular dermatitis (CPD) is an acute, highly contagious, zoonotic, debilitating and economically important viral non-systematic eruptive skin disease of small ruminants. In this report, occurrence of atypical caprine contagious pustular dermatitis associated with pneumonia in a goat flock is described. An outbreak of pox like disease was noticed in four out of 18 non-descript goats during June 2018, in Erode district of Tamil Nadu. Affected animals showed multiple, discrete, edematous nodular lesions and crust formation throughout its body surface with respiratory symptoms.

The present study was undertaken to the estimate inbreeding coefficient in Corriedale sheep under different agro-climatic conditions of Jammu and Kashmir. The pedigree file of 6,874 records of Corriedale sheep, maintained at Mountain Research Centre for Sheep & Goat (MRCSG), F.V.Sc & A.H, SKUAST-K Shuhama, for a period of 49 years (1969- 2017) was used to calculate inbreeding coefficients. The individual inbreeding coefficients were measured by Wright’s formula and was computed from the pedigree containing 6,874 animals using CFC software package and expressed as percentage.

The comparative haemato˗biochemical and physiological response to different bedding materials in Barbari kids was evaluated. Thirty post˗weaned Barbari kids of about three months age were selected from the institutional flock, which were divided into three groups viz. group I, II and III with ten kids in each group and were kept on plastic slats, soil and rubber mats, respectively. Blood samples were taken at monthly interval during the trial. There was no significant effect of flooring type on the physiological parameters. The mean values of hemoglobin (g/dl) and hematocrit (%) were 9.

Brucellosis is one of the world’s major zoonoses that affect wide range of domesticated as well as wild animals. Despite the eradication program of brucellosis, the disease is still endemic among cattle, buffaloes, sheep and goats. In many developing countries including India, Brucella melitensis is of much concern due to heavy economic losses to animal husbandry sector as well as humans. The present study was carried out to detect and characterize B.
