Cryopreservation is an effective method for long-term storage of sperm. It is essential to investigate the optimal conditions for preserving semen for the purpose of artificial insemination. Cysteine has been proven to reduce the extent of sperm damage caused by oxidative stress during cryopreservation. The aim of this study was to determine the concentration of cysteine required for cryopreservation of goat semen. The experiment was carried out on 2 bucks with 4 treatments, each treatment repeated 8 times.

The main findings of the study were that: (1) Goats fed Bauhinia acuminata responded with improved diet digestibility, N retention and growth rate when the Bauhinia acuminata was supplemented with water spinach; (2) However an important negative effect was that the improvement in diet digestibility by supplementation with water spinach led to increases in methane production per unit diet DM digested; (3) Supplementing Bauhinia acuminata foliage with leaves from a bitter variety of cassava reduced the in vitro production of methane when compared with supplementation by leaves from a sweet va...

This study was carried out to evaluate viable existence of Bifidobacterium longum BB536 during two weeks refrigeration of fermented goat milk supplemented with inulin and different cereal bran (Sorghum, Barely and Millet). Fermentation mediums were formulated from goat milk supplemented with 10% inulin and different cereal bran (sorghum, barely and millet). Probiotic strain B. longum BB 536 was used as the starter culture for 12h incubation to attain the fermented products.

Development of anthelmintic resistance has made it essential to develop alternative ways of worm control in animals. One of the most promising approaches is to treat only those animals which require attention in terms of worm management. “FAMACHA” method has facilitated quick identification of Haemaonchus contortus infected sheep and goats without the aid of any laboratory procedures and delivers the treatment only to those who require it.
