Insect bioassays were carried out of field strain of Helicoverpa armigera that survived on Bt cotton. These insects were reared on Cry1Ac incorporated diet that served as the initial culture for selection of resistance. Based on the partial sequences of putative trypsin mRNA of Helicoverpa armigera (accession no. AFO45138) trypsin specific primers were designed.

This resulted in exploration of new alternatives with lesser residues and lower environment threat. One such thing is exploring the opportunities of using ecofriendly insecticides such as Bacillus thuringiensis (Berliner), Beauveria bassiana and NSKE 5% which can provide alternative, eco-friendly options to control this insect pest (Jeyarani and Karuppuchamy, 2010). Keeping in view, the present study was undertaken to evaluate the field efficacy of green insecticides against H. armigera.

Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) is the major constraint for the production of chickpea as it feeds on the pods causing direct economic damage to the farmers. A single H. armigera larva feeds 30-40 pods in its life time. It is polyphagous and multivoltine pest which is difficult to control. Farmers generally rely on the insecticides but this pest was reported to show resistance to most of the insecticides used against it. Host plant resistance for managing this pest is best as it is compatible with other pest management practices.

Seasonal incidence studies of Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) infesting chickpea were undertaken during 2016-17 at Instructional farm, Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, J.A.U, Junagadh. A dominant invertebrate animal, insect, have capacity to change their behavior and habitat with the changing of the environment and so, it is necessary to see the impact of changing pattern in abiotic factors on H. armigera on chickpea so seasonal incidence with provide information regarding this utility.
