Drought is one of the most important abiotic stresses that cause drastic reduction in rice grain yield (GY) in rainfed environments. The identification and introgression of QTL leading to high GY under drought have been advocated to be the preferred breeding strategy to improve drought tolerance of popular rice varieties.

In Asia, rice is the most important, widely consumed staple food for a large part of the world's human population. Bacterial leaf blight (BB), caused by the bacterium, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) is one of the major disease affecting Basmati rice production in India. CSR-30 is a very popular high yielding, salt tolerant Basmati variety widely grown in Haryana, India but highly susceptible to BB.

This study was aimed at quantifying yield loss due to high temperature induced damages on head rice recovery in rice. Fifteen rice varieties were evaluated over 3 seasons and their head rice recovery was estimated. Results of this study revealed that day temperature had no influence on the head rice recovery whereas night temperature had negative impact on head rice recovery at p < 0.05.

Drought is one of the major abiotic stress that limits rice production in Assam, India. A traditional drought tolerant local cultivar ‘Banglami’ was crossed with a high yielding rice variety ‘Ranjit’ and 180 F2 plants were raised. The 110 polymorphic SSR markers were used for genotyping of F2 plants.

Genotype-environment interaction and stability analysis has been important for plant breeders and plays a vital role in identifying genotypes that are stable or unstable in each environment. Varieties that show low G x E interaction and high yield are desirable for crop breeders. The study was conducted in 2018 at six locations in India to determine the presence of G x E of 171 single cross maize genotypes and to use the GGE biplot methodology to determine grain yield performance and stability of the genotypes evaluated across six environments.

Performance of modern cultivars in terms of yield under organic farming differs from that of conventional system. As the demand for organic rice is increasing, so to maintain high productivity, there is a need to evaluate modern high yielding rice varieties under organic farming systems. Field experiments were carried out using randomized complete block design involving fourteen rice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties including seven coarse and seven fine grain types with three replications under organic farming systems for three years (2013-2015).

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the most important staple food crops worldwide. Nitrogen (N) is the most important nutrient in irrigated rice cultivation. Current high yields of irrigated rice are often associated with applications of higher doses of fertilizer N, as nearly 30-40 percent of applied nitrogen is actually utilized by the crop; even with the best agronomic practices. It has always been a problem to raise the utilization rate of the rice plant and to increase efficiency of absorbed nitrogen for grain production.

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate 30 basmati rice genotypes for their stability for yield and yield attributing traits over three growing seasons. Fifteen randomly selected plants were sampled in the middle row of each plot and were used for the analysis. The study indicated that environment + (genotype x environment) was significant for all the characters studied thereby validating the distinctness of the environments considered. The GXE (linear) was highly significant for all the traits considered.

Coastal Odisha is one of the most flood prone areas of India where the paddy crop in the wet season is often devastated by flash floods with an average productivity of only 0.5–0.8 t ha⁻ ¹. The present study showed that farmers preferred to cultivate low yielding traditional land races owing to their better flood tolerance and the unavailability of flood tolerant high yielding varieties (HYVs).
