Regulator of G-protein signaling (RGS) proteins were originally identified as negative regulators of G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling via their GTPase-accelerating protein (GAP) activity. All RGS proteins contain evolutionarily conserved RGS domain; however, they differ in their size and regulatory domains. RGS1 and RGS10 are smaller than other RGS proteins, and their functions involve various inflammatory responses including autoimmune responses in both the periphery and the central nervous system (CNS). We have analyzed the response of a number of human cell lines to treatment with antisense oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) directed against RNA polymerase II, replication protein A, and Ha-ras. ODN-delivery to the cells was liposome-mediated or via electroporation, which resulted in di€erent intracellular locations of the ODNs. The ODN-mediated target mRNA reduction varied consider-ably between the cell lines.

Basic ®broblast growth factor (bFGF) regulates diversi®ed biological functions in rat Sertoli cells. This report demon-strates that bFGF inhibits steroidogenesis in developing rat Sertoli cells. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)-stimulated estradiol production was reduced by bFGF. Moreover, the amount of cytochrome P450 aromatase, responsible for the irreversible transformation of androgens into estrogens, is decreased by bFGF at the transcriptional level.

The induction of the heat shock response as well as its termination is auto-regulated by heat shock protein activities. In this study we have investi-gated whether Hsp90 functional protein levels influence the characteristics and duration of the heat shock response. Treatment of cells with several benzoquinone ansamycin inhibitors of Hsp90 (geldanamycin, herbimycin A) activated a heat shock response in the absence of heat shock, as reported previously.
