Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the common types of cancer in Vietnam. Over 50% of GCs are diagnosed at an unresectable stage. Deficiency in mismatch repair proteins (MMR) leading to microsatellite instability (MSI-H) is a crucial prognostic factor currently under investigation in these patients.

Ancient Rome ruled the Mediterranean and developed a system of law and justice that is still recognized today. Increasing internal instability eventually transformed the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. Weakened by internal unrest and plagued by invaders, Rome collapsed in 410 A.D.

Magnetic bearing systems have received much attention in the research community for the past decades. Its inherent nonlinearity and open-loop instability present challenges for controller design. This thesis investigates and designs model predictive control (MPC) systems for an experimental Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) laboratory system. A host-target development environment of real-time control system with hardware in the loop (HIL) is used for implementation of the predictive control systems. In this thesis, both continuous and discrete time model predictive controllers are studied.

The thesis is a hermeneutic study: it wants to interpret ugliness in fashion. In exposing the mechanics of fashion, in revealing the seams as it were of those traditional drivers of fashion – beauty and glamour – we see the destruction of the illusion of fashion and an unknotting of many of the certainties around how and why we dress the way we do. Thus dressing poor represents a willful instability in its relationship to beauty and offers an alternative way to think through the history of fashion.

The four main objectives of this work can be summarized as follows: To provide a theoretical analysis of added-mass instability that focuses on improving the performance of FSI using the partitioned approach; To develop an efficient and stable tool to analyze applications that are relevant to FSI; To validate the techniques with well defined analytical solutions; To evaluate the performance of artifical compressibility and compare it to the under-relaxation technique.

Systematize the theoretical issues on foreign exchange reserves and macroeconomic stability. Supplement the theoretical framework on the impact of foreign exchange reserves on some indicators related to macroeconomic stability such as GDP growth, exchange rate, balance of payment and inflation. Analyse of the macroeconomic situation, actual situation of foreign exchange reserves and the impact of the foreign exchange reserves on macroeconomic stability in Vietnam in the period of 2000 – 2016.

Viral infection of fibroblastic and endothelial cells leads to the transient synthesis of interferon-b(IFN-b). The down-regulation of IFN-bsynthesis after infection results both from transcriptional repression of the IFN-bgene and rapid degradation of mRNA. As with many cytokine mRNAs, IFN-bmRNA contains an AU-rich element (ARE) in its 3¢-untranslated region (UTR). AREs are known tomediate mRNAdeadenylation and destabilization. Depending on the class of ARE, deadenylation was shown to occur through synchronous or asynchronous mechanisms....

The CII protein of bacteriophagek, which activates the synthesis of thekrepressor, plays a key role in the lysis– lysogeny switch. CII has a small in vivo half-life due to its proteolytic susceptibility, and this instability is a key com-ponent for its regulatory role. The structural basis of this instability is not known. While studying guanidine hydro-chloride-assisted unfolding of CII, we found that low concentrations of the chaotrope (50–500 mM) have a con-siderable effect on the structure of this protein.

Base excision repair (BER), a major pathway for the removal of simple lesions in DNA, requires the co-ordinated action of several repair and ancillary proteins, the impairment of which can lead to genetic instability. We here address the role of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1) in BER. Using anin vitro cross-linking assay, we reveal that PARP-1 is always involved in repair of a uracil-containing oligonucleotide and that it binds to the damaged DNA during the early stages of repair.

Procarboxypeptidase U [proCPU, thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhib-itor (TAFI), EC 3.4.17.20] belongs to the metallocarboxypeptidase family and is a zymogen found in human plasma. ProCPU has been proposed to be a molecular link between coagulation and fibrinolysis. Upon activation of proCPU, the active enzyme (CPU) rapidly becomes inactive due to its intrinsic instability.

Base excision DNA repair (BER) is fundamentally important in handling diverse lesions produced as a result of the intrinsic instability of DNA or by various endogenous and exogenous reactive species. Defects in the BER process have been associated with cancer susceptibility and neurodegenera-tive disorders.

The Nbs1 protein associates with Mre11 and Rad50 proteins to form the Mre11–Rad50–Nbs1 complex, which plays an important role in the intracellular signaling pathway activated in response to DNA damage. Mutations in the genes for each of these three components of the Mre11– Rad50–Nbs1 complex result in human diseases characterized by genomic instability.

Aninterleukin-7 (IL-7) gene has been cloned and sequenced within the Japanese pufferfish,Takifugu rubripes(Fugu), providing the first conclusive evidence for the existence of IL-7 in teleosts. The IL-7 cDNA was com-posed of 1438 bp, with a 117 bp 5¢-UTR, an 826 bp 3¢-UTR containing two mRNA instability motifs, and a 498 bp ORF which translates into a peptide of 166 amino acid residues.

The interaction betweena-dystroglycan (a-DG) andb-dystroglycan (b-DG), the two constituent subunits of the adhesion complex dystroglycan, is crucial in maintaining the integrity of the dystrophin–glycoprotein complex. The importance of the a–binterface can be seen in the skeletal muscle of humans affected by severe conditions, such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, where thea–binteraction can be secondarily weakened or completely lost, causing sarcolemmal instability and muscular necrosis.

The inverted repeats present in a genome play dual roles. They can induce genomic instability and, on the other hand, regulate gene expression. In the present study, we report the distribution and sequence features of recombi-nogenic long inverted repeats (LIRs) that are capable of forming stable stem-loops or palindromes within the human genome.

In this study, curcumin, a potential anticancer agent, was found to dampen the dynamic instability of individual microtubules in living MCF-7 cells. It strongly reduced the rate and extent of shortening states, and modestly reduced the rate and extent of growing states. In addition, curcumin decreased the fraction of time microtubules spent in the growing state and strongly increased the time microtubules spent in the pause state.
