In this study, green-synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were surface-modified with pluronic F-127 after being synthesized using the leaf extract of guava (Psidium guajava). The resulting material, ZnO@F-127, was then characterized, and its anticancer activity was evaluated on several cell lines.

This study proceeded to address the following objectives: To evaluate the effect of gas composition commonly used in modified atmosphere packaging (80% O2 and 20% CO2) on the shelf life of beef patties; to formulate an optimal solution containing natural antioxidant and antimicrobial preservatives and to study the effect of this combination and MAP on physiochemical attributes (surface colour (chroma, hue angle), metmyoglobin and oxmyoglobin contents, lipid stability) of fresh beef patties; to evaluate the effect of combined antioxidant – antimicrobial natural preservative and MAP on packag...

An efficient regeneration protocol was established for a rare plant species, Begonia coptidifolia. Using leaf explants, adventitious shoots were induced on Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium using various concentrations (1.0–10.0 mM) of three cytokinins, 6-benzyladenine (BA), thidiazuron (TDZ) and kinetin (KIN). However, adventitious shoots could not be induced on MS medium supplemented with auxins [α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) or 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D)] tested in the 1.0–10.0 mM range.

Advances in genomics technologies are making it increasingly feasible to characterize breeding lines that carry traits of agronomic interest. Tobacco germplasm lines that carry loci designated VAM and va have been extensively investigated due to their association with potyvirus resistance (both VAM and va) and defects in leaf surface compounds originating from glandular trichomes (VAM only). Molecular studies and classical genetic analyses are consistent with the model that VAM and va represent deletion mutations in the same chromosomal region.

Herbivorous insects can have a profound impact on plant growth performance. In some years, canopy damage in poplar plantations exceeds 50% of the total leaf surface, thereby possibly compromising carbon fixation and biomass yield.

Conamomum pierreanum (Gagnep.) Skornick. & A. D. Poulsen, (Zingiberaceae), a previously known species from Thailand and Cambodia, is here reported, as a new record for Vietnam. It is similar to C. rubidum and C. odorum but differs in having a present stilt root; a shorter petiole, 2-3 cm; a larger leaf blade, oblong, 30-50 × 5-8 cm, glabrous; a globose to ovoid inflorescence, arising near the base of rhizome; tomentose outer surface of bract; a 3-toothed bracteole, outer surface hairy; and a smaller filament, yellowish and glabrous.

This research aimed at getting the optimum solvent dielectric constant and ratio teter leaves to solvents on the highest antioxidant activity of teter leaves extract. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used for the optimization of extraction conditions with the experimental design was a Central Composite Design (CCD) in two factors, namely solvent dielectric constant and ratio of teter leaves to solvent.

Dust accumulation covers the leaf’s surface and influences foliar physiological activity. Two independent experiments were carried out to instigate the foliar responses to dust accumulation and the penetration limitation of small dust particles (< 1 μm) on the foliar surface, respectively.

Galls or the neoplastic growth on plants result from a complex type of interaction between the inducers (Acari, Insects, Microbes and Nematodes) and plants. The present study sheds light on the gall inducing habit of a highly host specific eriophyid mite, Aceria pongamiae, on the leaves of Pongamia pinnata leading to the production of abnormal pouch like outgrowths on the adaxial and abaxial surfaces of the foliage.

This study aims to find antagonistic bacteria that are able to provide the highest resistance to the growth of pathogenic Xoo bacteria in rice plants. Antagonistic bacteria were isolated from the leaves and roots of rice plants through surface sterilization and serial dilution. Obtained 53 bacterial isolates consisting of 20 bacterial isolates from leaves and 33 bacterial isolates from roots tested hypersensitive to tobacco plants for filtering potential non-pathogenic bacteria.

Quince (Cydonia oblonga) is a hardy tree and very less susceptible to diseases. Therefore, used as a dwarfing rootstock for pear, depending on the scion desired and characteristics of the production area. Algal leaf spot is a foliar disease most commonly seen in warm humid climate or in greenhouse conditions. The spots were circular or blotchy in shape, 1-5mm in size and were somewhat raised from the plant surface. The edges of the spots were wavy or feathered.

Rice (Oryza sativa) is the most important staple food crop in India. It ranks second in worldwide production. An anatomical and physiological character of surface of the rice leaf renders a sustainable environment for diversity of phylloplane microorganisms that showed antagonism against rice pathogens. The objective of this present study was to identify and characterize the bacterial population in the phylloplane of rice at different critical stages.

Turcicum leaf blight (TLB) or Northern Corn Leaf Blight (NCLB) is a ubiquitous foliar disease of corn (maize) caused by Exserohilum turcicum, the anamorph of the ascomycete Setosphaeria. The TLB fungus survives through the winter on infected maize residue at the soil surface. As temperatures rise in the spring and early summer, the fungus produces spores on residue, and then the spores are splashed or wind-blown onto leaves of the new maize crop. Infection occurs during periods of moderate (64° to 81°F), wet and humid weather.

Cyantraniliprole 10% OD at 90 g a.i.ha-1 was significantly effective when sprayed twice at 15 days interval, minimized the sucking pests population and increased cotton kapas yield. Cyantraniliprole 10% OD treatments at 90, 180 and 320 g a.i. ha-1 concentrations had not caused any phytotoxic effects like injury to leaf tip, leaf surface, wilting, vein clearing, necrosis, epinasty and hyponasty. Cyantraniliprole 10% (w/v) OD showed the least effect against the spiders.

Scab is the most serious disease of apple, particularly in years with cool wet springs and summers. Symptoms occur on leaf blade, fruit, petioles, sepals, blossoms, young shoots, and bud scales. The lesion increase in size as olive green colored which become progressively darker brown raised and velvety in appearance due to the abundant production of conidiophores and conidia.

Papaya is attacked by several diseases like, anthracnose, powdery mildew, black spot, brown spot and papaya ring spot. Among the emerging diseases in papaya, black spot disease caused by Asperisporium caricae is most lethal. Both leaves and fruit of papaya can be affected by the black leaf spot caused by Asperisporium caricae. The fruits were affected on the surface, reducing the fresh-market value. This disease can affect papaya plants at any stage of their growth. Periods of wet weather may increase the development of the disease.
