In the High Middle Ages, Europe saw explosive urban growth, a revival of trade, and an emboldened Catholic Church. Yet catastrophic setbacks followed in the form of plague, economic collapse, and war. Christianity remained a focus of European life, but centuries of confrontation with the monarchies left the Church weakened.

Humans and animals have formed powerful bonds across cultures and throughout history, in real life and in storytelling. Forming relationships with animals has been a fundamental part of the human experience around the globe and literature is filled with descriptions and imaginings of human and animal interaction. Human animal relationships appear in a wide range of literary genres, and the nature of the bonds formed between human and animal characters in literature is intriguingly diverse.

Objects, when understood as retrieval cues for memories, may elicit psychological benefits and connections to an individual's past. They are integral to our life story and help to form our individual sense of identity and ability to establish a sound psychological foundation. Transitional objects are an important related category of objects that have been identified in this research. The concept and use of transitional objects and their related phenomena during infancy is well researched, whereas the impact and importance beyond infancy is less established.

This practice-led research project considers human agency in relation to matter and materialism. Seeking to unlearn human assertions of agency as dominant, this project fosters relational and collaborative exchanges with matter that manifest as installations and sculptural interventions. Informed by new materialist and posthuman frameworks, it recognises that material hierarchies are held in place by what we choose to prioritise in human worlds.

Ravine ecosystems are highly dynamic and completely deformatted terrain landscape. In these regions, Indigenous plant species are playing significant role in environmental rehabilitation because of their exultant survival and high adaptation to local conditions. Despite this, very little information’s available about existence of medicinal plants on the typical ravine flora. The present study attempted to explore the diversity and distribution of medicinal plant flora in the Yamuna ravines of Agra (U.P) and Chambal ravines of Kota district (Rajasthan).

A correct three-dimensional structure is a prerequisite for protein function-ality, and therefore for life. Thus, it is not surprising that our cells are packed with proteins that assist protein folding, the process in which the native three-dimensional structure is formed.

African trypanosomes possess high levels of alanine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.2), although the function of their activity remains enigmatic, espe-cially in slender bloodstream forms where the metabolism of ketoacids does not occur. Therefore, the gene for alanine aminotransferase enzyme inTry-panosoma brucei(TbAAT) was characterized and its function assessed using a combination of RNA interference and gene knockout approaches.

The issue of how a newly synthesized polypeptide chain folds to form a protein with a unique three-dimensional structure, otherwise known as the ‘protein-folding problem’, remains a fundamental question in the life sci-ences. Over the last few decades, much information has been gathered about the mechanisms by which proteins fold.

The ever-increasing number of drug-resistant bacteria is a major challenge in healthcare and creates an urgent need for novel compounds for treat-ment. Host defense antimicrobial peptides have high potential to become the new generation of antibiotic compounds. Antimicrobial peptides consti-tute a major part of the innate defense system in all life forms.

All life forms on earth require a continuous input and monitoring of car-bon and energy supplies. The AMP-activated kinase (AMPK)⁄sucrose non-fermenting1 (SNF1)⁄Snf1-related kinase1 (SnRK1) protein kinases are evolutionarily conserved metabolic sensors found in all eukaryotic organ-isms from simple unicellular fungi (yeast SNF1) to animals (AMPK) and plants (SnRK1).
