Longevity periods

The author describes one of his hypothetical theories on the relationship between life longevity and overall metabolism, the macrosystem view, specifically the stress and daily life routine regularity, two micro-categories. He has spent ~25,000 h over 7.5 years (2010–2019) to conduct research on metabolism, endocrinology, and chronic diseases, specifically diabetes.

The results showed that pre-oviposition, oviposition and post-oviposition periods of A. arizonensis were calculated as 1.5, 26, and 3.1 days, respectively. In addition, total mean longevity was determined as 31 days for female and 18 days for male individuals. Moreover, total mean fecundity and daily mean fecundity were also found as 83 mealybugs/female, and 4.1 mealybugs/female/day, respectively. The intrinsic rate of increase (r), net reproduction rate (R0), finite rate of increase (λ), gross reproductive rate (GRR), and mean generation time (T) were found 0.135, 41.25, 1.144, 60.

Aiming at verifying the effect of host on the development, the biology of Rhyzopertha Dominica (Fab.) was studied on paddy variety, Sumati, Maize Hybrid DHM-111 and sorghum variety M 35-1 during 2009-10 in the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. The biological parameters assessed were egg duration, egg hatching percentage, total larval and pupal period, total development period, fecundity, male and female longevity, sex ratio, pre-oviposition, oviposition and post oviposition period.

The present study was thus aimed to determine the relative longevities of five barley varieties by subjecting them to a modified CD test allowing longer period of incubation at 45ºC (48 and 96 hours) as well as raising the moisture content to 20% and also determine some of the physiological changes occurring in the deteriorated seeds which can serve as indices of seed quality.

Nesidiocoris tenuis (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Miridae) is an effective predator of pests of tomato crops and a promising biocontrol agent of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae). The aim of this study was to know the biology of the predator, N. tenuis on T. absoluta. This study was revealed that egg period as 6.97 days and number of nymphal instars was five. The duration of I, II, III, IV and V instar nymphs was 2.71, 3.09, 2.83, 3.06 and 2.76 days, respectively and total nymphal period was 14.48 days. The longevity of adult was 7.43 days. The total life period was observed 28.

Tobacco streak virus (TSV) causes necrosis on leaf, veins, petiole and stem in Blackgram. The sap extracted from the infected blackgram plants remains infectious upto 24 hrs at room temperature. Infectivity of TSV on cowpea progressively reduced in response to increasing in the temperature and dilution. The present investigation was carried out to test the physical properties of TSV such as longevity storage period, thermal inactivation point and dilution end point on Cowpea (CV C- 125) isolated from naturally infected Blackgram plants (CO-8).

The bud worm, Hendecasis duplifascialis Hampsn is one of the major pests of jasmine, Jasminum sambac. The biology of budworm, H. duplifascialis was studied and found that the incubation period, total larval and pupal period were 3.40 ± 0.23, 11.60 ± 1.30 and 5.80 ± 0.19 days respectively. The longevity of male and female moths was 3.10 ± 0.23 and 4.10 ± 0.31 days respectively. The total life cycle for male and female moths was found to be 23.90 ± 1.95 and 24.90 ± 2.03 days respectively. It was also observed that the longevity of female moth was longer compared to the male.

Nine experimental dietary formulations (T1-T9) were prepared which composed of rice, wheat, sorghum, rice + groundnut, wheat + groundnut, sorghum + groundnut, rice + sesamum, wheat + sesamum and sorghum + sesamum as base diet to rear and maintain the rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica under laboratory conditions. All the diets were fortified with baker’s yeast @ 5 g, wettable sulphur @ 5 g, and Streptomycin sulphate @ 50 mg.

The present investigation dealt with the effect of temperature and duration of pulsing with silver thiosulphate (STS) on the peroxidative changes of cut rose petals during vase life period. From the investigation it was proved that flowers pulsed with 0.4mM STS at 10oC for a short period of 8 hours significantly decreased the catalase and peroxidase activities thereby extending the shelf life of cut roses. The enhanced longevity of cut roses was due to suppressing the formation of peroxides and free radicals in the plant tissue.

Biology and morphometrics of blue butterfly, Lampides boeticus infesting cowpea, was studied. The eggs were disc-shaped, finely sculptured and pale green in colour. The mean egg period observed was 3.20±0.20 days. There were four larval instars. The later instars were found attended by red ants in the field. The first instar caterpillar was fringed with hairs while second instar had sparse hairs. The third and fourth instar caterpillars were slug like, pea green in colour. The average sizes of the head capsule from first to fourth instars were found to be 0.11, 0.25, 0.63 and 1.

High moisture content of broccoli limits its post harvest longevity. So in order to make it available for a longer period the vegetable is needed to be preserved. For this, the present study was undertaken where dehydration was chosen as a mode of preservation and the experiment was aimed to establish suitable pre drying treatment combination and dehydration temperature for broccoli florets. Hot water blanching and chemicals like calcium chloride, citric acid, sodium metabisulfite and potassium metabisulfite were used for pre drying treatments.

Laboratory experiments were carried out to study the biology of Sitophilus oryzae on stored rice grains in different seasons during 2016-17. The results of the laboratory experiments revealed that the duration of various developmental stages i.e. incubation period, larval period, pupal period and adult longevity varied from one season to another season. The longest incubation period, larval period and pupal period of 5.85±0.31, 21.33±0.99 and 10.20±0.50 days was registered during February. And the longest adult longevity of male with food of 58.72±3.44 days and without food of 12.98±0.

The lab experiment was laid out with completely randomised block design to study the effect of different seed packing materials with silica gel and vacuum packing on seed longevity of onion variety Arka Kalyan with three replications for twelve months at Seed Testing and Research laboratory, Seed Unit, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur. The results showed that, the impervious containers recorded minimum seed deterioration compared to previous container (cloth bag).

Biology and morphometrics of pigeonpea plume moth, E. atomosa (Wals.) on pigeonpea variety viz., Saket was studied during Kharif-2018 at the under laboratory condition RVSKVV, Gwalior (M.P.) at the room temperature 28±2oC and relative humidity 72±2 per cent from October to November. Eggs were laid in singly on the pods sometimes on flower buds and occasionally on leaves of 5-50 eggs. The finding was including incubation period was ranged from 2-3 days with an average of 2.60±0.16 days. Eggs were measured 0.44±0.01, 0.34±0.01 mm in length and width.
