The objective of this thesis was to investigate the development of a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) which can be implanted in the eye to provide continuous monitoring of glaucoma conditions. Current glaucoma monitoring involves taking laboratory based intra ocular pressure (IOP) measurements. The main focus of this thesis is on the application of a model predictive control (MPC) method to devise an ABS for a BBW vehicle. Unlike the traditional ABS control algorithms which are based on a trial and error method, the MPC based ABS algorithm aims to utilizes the behaviour of the model to optimize the wheel slip dynamics subject to system constraints. Performance of the proposed wheel slip controller is validated through Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) and Hardware-inthe-Loop (HiL) simulation.

In this thesis, the limitations of using existing LTE congestion mitigation mechanisms such as Discard Timer and RED have been explored. A different mechanism to analyse the effects of using control theory for congestion mitigation has been developed. Finally, congestion mitigation in LTE networks has been addresses using radio resource allocation techniques with non-cooperative game theory being an underlying mathematical framework.

Two major areas of the scorecard development process were identified as having much capacity for improving credit scoring models. These are the application of 1) better classifiers and 2) variable selection techniques. However, the application of an artificial immune system for developing scorecards as well as the use of other variable selection techniques, other than stepwise regression, in credit scoring are quite limited as indicated by the scarcity of published materials in these two areas in the current literature.

This paper considers the problem of a low-velocity normal impact of a rigid cone-shaped upon a viscoelastic plate. The contact force is defined by the modified Hertz's contact law. Approximate solutions of the system of nonlinear integro-differential equations for the contact force and local indentation have been obtained.
