  • We investigated resistance switching behavior of the Ag/ZnO/Ti structures for random access memory devices. These films were prepared on glass substrate by dc sputtering technique at room temperature. The resistance switching follows unipolar switching mode with small switching voltages (0.4 V – 0.6 V). Our results figured out that the Ag/ZnO/Ti/Glass structure is a candidate structure for nonvolatile data storage applications.

  • Holographic Storage. Stores data on a holographic (3-dimensional) image by passing light through light-sensitive crystals that retain the light patterns. It will have multiple thousands of times more memory capacity and no mechanical movements. Large blocks of data can be written or read with a single read or write command as opposed to today’s 2-dimensional storages devices that read and write data one bit at a time.

  • Oracle Lite, once known as Oracle Mobile, is intended for single users who are using wireless/mobile devices. It differs from other members of the Oracle database family in that it doesn’t use the same database engine. Instead, Oracle developed a light- weight engine compatible with the limited memory and storage capacity of hand- held devices. Oracle Lite is described in more detail at the end of this chapter. Because the SQL supported by Oracle Lite is largely the same as the SQL for other Oracle databases, you can run applications developed for those database engines using Oracle Lite.

  • Due to its superiority such as low access latency, low en- ergy consumption, light weight, and shock resistance, the success of flash memory as a storage alternative for mobile computing devices has been steadily expanded into personal computer and enterprise server markets with ever increas- ing capacity of its storage. As it has been witnessed in the past several years, two-fold annual increase in the density of NAND flash memory is expected to continue until year 2012 [11].

  • In recent years, the ICT market has quickly moved toward the integration of a large variety of functions into a single portable electronic equipment. The boundaries among different devices like music players, digital cameras or mobile phones are going to vanish. In this trend, one of the key factors is played by data storage, since all these devices require a large amount of memory to store either audio or visual data. Also, the energy consumption needs to be reduced to further extend battery duration and the functionality of the devices....

  • 47.6 COMPUTER HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE ORGANIZATION 47.6.1 Software Organization Basic Operation. The computer software is divisible into several modules in terms of function. Figure 47.14 shows the relationships of these modules. The monitor is a small program permanently stored in read-only memory (ROM) in the microcomputer. It performs basic traffic direction and boots up the supervisor. That is, when the computer is switched on, the monitor expects to find a program waiting to be read from a mass storage device.
