The objective of this thesis was to investigate the development of a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) which can be implanted in the eye to provide continuous monitoring of glaucoma conditions. Current glaucoma monitoring involves taking laboratory based intra ocular pressure (IOP) measurements. The measurement of intraocular fluid flow and IOP parameters related to blockage formation in the eye require to be continuously monitored in Glaucoma.

This thesis intends to develop application-level access control models to address several major security issues in enterprise environments. The first goal is to provide simple and efficient authorization specifications to reduce the complexity of security management. The second goal is to provide dynamic access control for Web service applications. The third goal is to provide an access control framework for Semantic Web services. In this thesis, an Authorization-Function-Based Role-based Access Control (FB-RBAC) model is proposed for controlling enterprise systems at the application level.

The broad aim of this research project is to optimize planned and emergency maintenance tasks and timings for tram tracks. Consistent with that broad aim, the following specific objectives are identified: Understand the factors affecting the degradation of tram tracks; develop a degradation prediction model for tracks as a function of the influencing factors; evaluate the time and type of maintenance required for deteriorated rail tracks.

Organizations have long struggled with the successful completion of projects within the time, cost and performance indicators with respect to a customer product or solution that is expected to ultimately meet the customer’s expectations. This thesis demonstrates the link between the successful creation, management and dissemination of project requirements throughout the entire project process using a knowledge management overlay model to ensure the success of the overall project to meet stakeholder needs through the successful creation and transfer of project requirements.

The purpose of this research is to model the factors affecting a production and inventory system that combines returns and remanufacturing, and to evaluate effective control strategies in order to improve the performance of the system. In this regard, the main steps adopted to conduct the modelling process initially involved an investigation of reverse logistics and closed loop supply modelling as reported in the literature. An investigation of previous models developed contributed to our research by increasing the knowledge required to conduct the modelling.

Gravity data inversion or interpretation requires the removal of the gravitational effects of the a priori known geologic and/or morphologic features within the Earth’s system to model and reveal the remaining signals of the unknown anomalous subsurface density distributions. The Bouguer gravity anomalies reduced by the normal gravitational field of the Earth and the gravitational attraction of the topographic masses above the sea level are frequently used in geophysics for this purpose.

In this thesis, we investigate the problem of IoT services deployment in Cloud-Fog system to provide IoT services with minimal resource usage cost. We for-mulate the problem using a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming model taking into account the characteristics of computing and transmission resources in Cloud-Fog system as well as the IoT services specific requirements.

This paper proposes a framework for selecting energy storage technology (EST) for small-scale renewable energy systems. The present study was able to achieve this using the results that were generated from a Preference Ranking Organisation Method for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE) and a fuzzy quality function deployment (FQFD) model.

A system has been programmed in JOVIAL to serve as a vehicle for testing hypotheses about language change through time. A basic requirement of the system is that models must be formulated within the framework of Sapir's concept of drift and Bloomfield's definition of a speech community.

The pulmonary surfactant prevents alveolar collapse and is required for normal pulmonary function. One of the important components of the surfactant besides phos-pholipids is surfactant-associated protein C (SP-C). SP-C shows complex oligomerization behavior and a transition to b-amyloid-like fibril structures, which are not yet fully understood. Besides this nonspecific oligomerization, MS and chemical cross-linking data combined with CD spectra provide evidence of a specific, mainlya-helical, dimer at lowto neutral pH....

The ATP–pyrophosphate exchange reaction catalyzed by Arg-tRNA, Gln-tRNA and Glu-tRNA synthetases requires the assistance of the cognate tRNA. tRNA also assists Arg-tRNA synthetase in catalyzing the pyro-phosphorolysis of synthetic Arg-AMP at low pH. The mechanism by which the 3¢-end A76, and in particular its hydroxyl group, of the cognate tRNA is involved with the exchange reaction catalyzed by those enzymes has yet to be established.

We have looked at protocols for distributing and establishing keys used for authentication and confidentiality But who should you give these keys to? Who should you trust? What are the rules governing when to and not to give out security credentials In this lecture, we will look at the broad area of secure and trusted systems We will focus on access control models These methods are often used to abstract the requirements for a computer system But, they hold for general systems where security is a concern (e.g. networks, computers, companies…) ...

Realistic quantitative models require data from many laboratories. There-fore, standardization of experimental systems and assay conditions is crucial. Moreover, standards should be representative of thein vivoconditions. How-ever, most often, enzyme–kinetic parameters are measured under assay con-ditions that yield the maximum activity of each enzyme.
