The patient population with stage III non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is heterogeneous, with varying staging characteristics and diverse treatment options. Despite the potential practice-changing implications of randomized controlled trials evaluating the efficacy of perioperative epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs), concerns have been raised due to conflicting overall survival (OS) results.

The effective use of mutant populations for reverse genetic screens relies on the population-wide characterization of the induced mutations. Genome- and population-wide characterization of the mutations found in fast neutron populations has been hindered, however, by the wide range of mutations generated and the lack of affordable technologies to detect DNA sequence changes.

Rice sheath blight, caused by Rhizoctonia solani, is one of the most devastating diseases for stable rice production in most rice-growing regions of the world. Currently, studies of the molecular mechanism of rice sheath blight resistance are scarce. Here, we used mutated rice population of the variety swarna induced by the sodium azide (NaN3). The variability in disease reaction was observed among mutated rice lines. Out of the total 1000 mutant plants, 47 plants were screened that show low disease index, ranged between 0 to 5 were selected for next generation.

Mutations in NBN, the gene for Nijmegen Breakage Syndrome (NBS), are thought to predispose women to developing breast cancer, but a breast cancer cell line containing mutations in NBN has not yet been described. The p.R215W missense mutation occurs at sub-polymorphic frequencies in several populations.

: Inhibitors of mutant BRAF are emerging as standard of care in patients with metastatic melanoma who carry relevant oncogenic mutations. However, BRAF inhibitors are found to induce cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cuSCC). Population-based background rates of cuSCC and non-cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (non-cuSCC) in the metastatic melanoma population may contextualize safety signals from randomized clinical trials or the clinics.

Mutation breeding is one of the best ways to induce genetic variability within a crop species in a short period of time. It is equally a potentially powerful tool for cluster bean as other crops for genetic enrichment. The gamma radiation induced 190 M4 mutant lines of cluster bean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.] obtained from Centre for Biotechnological Research (CBR), Dept. of BCI, College of Horticulture, Bengaluru and which were used for the field experiment on spikelet sterility during kharif 2017 (June - November) at College of Horticulture, Mysore.

An investigation was carried out to study the effects of various doses (0.2 to 0.6%) of EMS on physico-quality traits of groundnut (Arachis hypogea L) in M4 families of the groundnut variety TPG 41. Among the different concentrations of EMS treated TPG 41 population, 0.2 % EMS was found to be effective in inducing variability for pod yield per plant, hundred kernel weight, shelling out turn and kernel length in M4 families.

Plants have developed a variety of mechanisms to counteract aphid attacks. They activate their defences by changing the expression of specific genes. Previously we identified an activation tag mutant of Arabidopsis thaliana on which Myzus persicae population development was reduced.

Variability caused by induced mutations is not essentially different from variability caused by spontaneous mutation during evolution. Although marigold (Tagetes spp.) is an important commercial crop the major breeding obstacle is non-availability of known sources for creating a novelty. Therefore, in vivo grown seedlings and in vitro raised proliferated cultures of marigold cultivar Pusa Narangi Gainda were subjected to gammairradiation to develop mutant populations. 11 Mutants were grown in the M1 generation and variants screened based on yield and morphological characters.

Targeting Induced Local Lesions in Genome (TILLING) is a general reverse technique that combines chemical mutagenesis with PCR based screening to identity point mutations in regions of interest. The strategy works with a mismatch-specific endonuclease to detect induced or natural DNA polymorphisms in gene of interest. The main principles of TILLING include making EMS-mutagenized population, targeting gene of interest with PCR primers and searching rare mutants among many individuals.

Pattern of segregation and performance of selected F5 individuals were studied in 21 different F5 families which were derived from eight crosses in rice. Pattern of segregations in different F5 populations revealed moderate to wide range of genetic variation with respect to grain yield and yield components as well as other quantitative characters.

In M2 generation, population mean got decrease with increase in variance for all the four traits studied and the magnitude of such changes varied with mutagens, their doses and the variety. Higher the dose of treatment greater the shift in mean and variance.

An experiment was conducted to study the phenotypic characterization of mutants from different species of annual chrysanthemum by treating the seeds of different species of Chrysanthemum coronarium (Cco), Chrysanthemum segetum (Cse) and Chrysanthemum carinatum (Cca) with various doses of gamma rays (Cobalt-60) at National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow. Immediately after the mutagenic treatment, the nurseries were raised and further transplanted in the field.
