An improved six-node triangular finite element based on a twice-interpolation strategy (TIS) for accurately modeling singular stress fields near crack tips of two-dimensional (2D) cracks in solids is presented. In contrast to the traditional approaches, the approximation functions constructed based on the TIS involve both nodal values and averaged nodal gradients.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades play critical functions in almost every aspect of plant growth and development, which regulates many physiological and biochemical processes. As a middle nodal point of the MAPK cascades, although evolutionary analysis of MKK from individual plant families had some reports, their evolutionary history in entire plants is still not clear.

In adaptive finite element methods, the papproach uses elements of varying degrees to represent the approximate solution. In this paper, we systematically define, present and prove the main properties of nodal basis functions utilized in p-adaptive finite element methods.

This study presents a novel application of mesh-free method using the smoothed-radial basis functions for the computational homogenization analysis of materials. The displacement field corresponding to the scattered nodes within the representative volume element (RVE) is split into two parts including mean term and fluctuation term, and then the fluctuation one is approximated using the integrated radial basis function (iRBF) method.

Coarse mesh nodal methods are widely used in the analysis of nuclear reactors. However, these methods provide only average values of the neutron fluxes. From a safety point of view, it is important to have an accurate analysis of the pin to pin flux distribution that nodal methods are not able to provide.

The band topology in condensed matter has attracted widespread attention in recent years. Due to the band inversion, topological nodal line semimetals (TNLSs) have band crossing points (BCPs) around the Fermi level, forming a nodal line. In this work, by means of first-principles, we observe that the synthesized NaAlGe intermetallic compound with anti-PbFCl type structure is a TNLS with four NLs in the kz = 0 and kz = p planes. All these NLs in NaAlGe exist around the Fermi level, and what is more, these NLs do not overlap with other bands.

Very recently, searching for new topological nodal line semimetals (TNLSs) and drum-head-like (DHL) surface states has become a hot topic in the field of physical chemistry of materials. Via first principles, in this study, a synthesized CsCl type binary alloy, TiOs, was predicted to be a TNLS with three topological nodal lines (TNLs) centered at the X point in the kx/y/z = p plane, and these TNLs, which are protected by mirror, time reversal (T) and spatial inversion (P) symmetries, are perpendicular to one another.

In the fourth chapter of this section, the authors present a modification of the Crank- Nicholson scheme for two-dimensional fluid mechanical, heat and mass transfer problems. The modification divides the nodal points into groups of four. The method is applicable to parallel computing, which is increasing in importance as problems become more computationally intensive. Computational experiments demonstrate improved convergence rates over previous methods.

MULTIPLICITY RESULTS FOR A CLASS OF ASYMMETRIC WEAKLY COUPLED SYSTEMS OF SECOND-ORDER ORDINARY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS FRANCESCA DALBONO AND P. J. MCKENNA Received 1 November 2004 We prove the existence and multiplicity of solutions to a two-point boundary value problem associated to a weakly coupled system of asymmetric second-order equations. Applying a classical change of variables, we transform the initial problem into an equivalent problem whose solutions can be characterized by their nodal properties.

EXISTENCE OF INFINITELY MANY NODAL SOLUTIONS FOR A SUPERLINEAR NEUMANN BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM AIXIA QIAN Received 12 January 2005 We study the existence of a class of nonlinear elliptic equation with Neumann boundary condition, and obtain infinitely many nodal solutions. The study of such a problem is based on the variational methods and critical point theory. We prove the conclusion by using the symmetric mountain-pass theorem under the Cerami condition. 1. Introduction Consider the Neumann boundary value problem: − u + αu = f (x,u), ∂u = 0, ∂ν x ∈ Ω, (1.
