Nuclear reaction mechanisms

This text is intended as a first course in the physics of nuclear reactors. It is designed to be appropriate as an introduction to reactor theory within an undergraduate nuclear engineering curriculum, as well as for a stand-alone course that can be taken by undergraduates in mechanical, electrical, or other fields of engineering who have not had a previous background in nuclear energy. Part 1 book "Fundamentals of nuclear reactor physics" includes contents: Nuclear reactions, neutron interactions, neutron distributions in energy, the power reactor core, reactor kinetics.

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (HNRNP) A1 and A2 are the most abundant HNRNPs with nearly identical functions, and play important roles in regulating gene expression at multiple levels (i.e. transcription, posttranscription, and translation). However, the expression and regulation mechanism of HNRNPA1 and A2 themselves remain unclear. In this study, the amino acid sequences of HNRNPA1 and HNRNPA2 were compared and found to have 78% and 86% homology in key functional domains.

Exportin 1 (XPO1) is a well-characterized nuclear export protein whose expression is up-regulated in many types of cancers and functions to transport key tumor suppressor proteins (TSPs) from the nucleus. Polymers containing hydrogen bonds are of great significance as they have the potential to strengthen the mechanical properties of a material through non-covalent crosslinking, which is the basis for paint and self-healing materials. In this work we describe a method to obtain a novel polymer via the coupling reaction of cyanuric chloride and a di-amine. We investigate the reaction conditions to optimise the polymerization yield and molecular weight polydispersity.

When boron carbide is used as a neutron absorber in nuclear power plants, large quantities of helium are produced. To simulate the gas behaviour, helium implantations were carried out in boron carbide. The samples were then annealed up to 1500 °C in order to observe the influence of temperature and duration of annealing.

It is also well known that the knowledge of nuclear reaction mechanisms is at best approximate, and that their modeling relies on many parameters which do not have a precise physical meaning outside of their specific implementations in nuclear model codes: they carry both specific physical information, and effective information that is related to the deficiencies of the model itself.
